my front diff just pooped on me, i wanna go 5spd. car is a 96 impreza L, AWD 2.2 AUTO what are the parts that i need? i did a search on here on tranny swap but got no luck. im also looking for some one to do the swap for me cuz im lazy. will pay cash, pm'd me if ur up to it, thanks
You'll need a tranny w/mount, cables, master cylinder, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, clutch pedals, shifter boot, possibly a different drive shaft, and an ECU from a manual transmission car. I think that covers most of it.
The Legacy didn't need a different ECU. Flip two wires and it thinks it's a manual car. Definitely need a driveshaft. A clutch master cylinder is only needed if using a hydraulic setup, otherwise cable options abound. A manual tranny crossmember is needed. GL on finding someone to do it for you cheap, lol.
Not looking very hard. I mean, searching "tranny swap" with MNSubaru's search even pulled up this previous thread of your own: auto to manual? what do i need?
Find a donor car and do everything yourself so you can learn. You can search on RS25.com its got some info. Good luck.
Not to be the pooper here, but on a 13 year old L, maybe your cash is better spent looking for a newer manual model?
I just did a 5mt swap on my 14yr old Impreza last fall. The information is out there you might just need to dig alittle harder for it. I know for sure that I have posted up a couple lists of the parts needed and some good pointers; but I dont feel like searching for them right now. I recall that it cost me about $450-500 to do the whole swap, and after I had everything on hand I was able to do the complete conversion in about 2 days (started friday night finished sunday morning) and I did all of the work myself w/o a lift and with only hand tools.
dang, u got mad skillz. i decided to sell the car, please check the sale thread if interested. MOD, please closed this thread, thanks also thanks for the info
