So Mike Wagner talked me into getting a sweet set of pads and rotors, now what do I buy? I bought Taras' rear slotted rotors he had for sale and now I'm looking at front rotors, pads and SS brake lines. I am thinking about EBC Green pads, Hawk HPS, .... Mike said NAPA has some good pads (not saying your wrong Mike ;)). What do some of you guys run and how do you like them.

Oh as for the driving it will be mainly street with an occasional trip to the track or an auto-x event.

I'd suggest a mild pad (hawk hps, carbotech bobcat, etc), some cryo'd front rotors, stainless and coated lines (goodridge), good fluid, and I'd throw in a brake master cylinder brace too (~$80).

I have carbotech bobcats on the civic and ran hawk hps on the wrx... on the street they are pretty similar. Haven't pushed the civic, and I can't speak to dusting (dark wheels on the wrx and the civic is beyond trying to clean it up)... what tires are you running?

If you're looking at EBC, go with the Redstuff.

Cusco and carbing has one that integrates into their front strut bar. I'd recommend the cusco.

Thanks for the offer Justin but I have a slight issue with used brake products, call me weird I know just a phobia I have. For instance I would buy used calipers but get everything else new ... just the kind of guy I am I can't explain it :dunno:

Yep at 10pm in the dark, real simple install though!! The wrong spring was in it though but Sheen set me straight on the springs. Also its a BPV not BOV ... jeez Mike.

Well I have done a brake job once in my life. Replaced the pads on a '68 Beetle 28 years ago. Speedometer never worked again. Didn't have the interwebz then though. Still not sure I have enough courage to try.

what kind of brace are you thinking? how hard are they to install?

I run Carbotech AX6 pads with WRX front and H6 rear rotors/brackets. My only complains are that they are noisy without a religious use of some form of anti-squeal (Brake Quiet, anti-sieze, bearing grease, etc.). Auto-x events tend to burn off/dry out most anything put on.

Friction level is a touch above stock dead cold. "Normal" operating temp is just above normal driving, but when heated, they grip very well. Once you get them hot, braking effort is rather light even under heavy braking with grippy tires, running 245 wide RE01Rs myself. The non-linear friction/temp behavior may not be all that desireable to some, but one does get used to it relatively easily.

I have yet to find a need for more braking ability and the WRX + H6 bias is really very near neutral.

I haven't had any issues with heat or fade with auto-x. I think I'd have to get to track use to ever see thermal problems.

The brakes are incredibly light on the rotors and the pads themselves wear like iron. The setup will effortlessly last many years. The aggressiveness between pad and rotor wear is really good, and for the braking ability, I find overall wear to be rather quite light.

The pads do dust a bit, something to think about if you're a clean freak.
