Hi!! I'm in the process of changing rotors/pads on my brother's Audi. I am in need of a piston retractor tool. If anyone has one and will let my borrow it, Please PLEASE pm me. I need it early morning tomaro, or perhaps tonight. Thanks, Tom
the emergency brake is built into the caliper on them audis, so it is very very very stiff...... I wuld use a c clamp but i dont have 1 big enough.
haha, I'm purty sure the piston has to be twisted onto threads while pressure is applied by the tool...........I'm loving how easy our subarus are
you can get the tool to do this at a local checkers, pep boys, autozone... looks like this. they are relatively cheap. good luck to ya.
What I used to do with my VW, which has the same type of caliper, was squeeze the caliper with a vice-grip c-clamp and turn the piston with a channel lock pliers. The piston moves in slowly, so every time the clamp lossens up, readjust the vicegrips, and turn the piston some more. Repeat until you have clearance to get the caliper on. be careful to only grab thr very end of the piston to avoid damaging the boot or shaft.
^ Thats what I ended up doing, but I used a channel locks instead of a vice-grip. Brakes are on!! Woot woot. :banana:

?? - can someone briefly explain the twisting onto threads thing - or link me to somewhere I can read an explanation. Didn't know about that and about to change my rear pads - want to make sure I do it right. Same for fronts or no?
