Looking at the Greddy SP2 and was wondering what current owners experience and opinions are with this exhaust, mainly how quite are they?
Looked at some on u-tube but the results vary.

Was looking at Megan Type-2 due to overall cost but seems the technology and mfg is sub-par while they are not available for 4-5 weeks.

Being that I recently have a large amount of experience with this, I'll chime in.

First the aftermarket stuff on the car that didn't change:
    '05 Wrx Wag
Catless up, Stromung divorced wastegate coated shorty dp, GMBCS, K&N drop in panel filter. All on the same Bullwinkle Stage 2 Tune that was for exhaust setup number 1. 19psi boost, Put down 209whp/227tq back in oct at RS Motors Mustang Dyno.

Exhaust 1: Stock 3rd cat, STI CBE

Exhaust 2: Stock 3rd cat, Sti Midpipe, JDM STI genome axle back

Exhaust 3: Stock 3rd cat, sti midpipe, Hacked STI muffler

Exhaust 4: Stromung highflow 3" cat, Maddad 3" to 2.5" midpipe, Hacked STI muffler

Exhaust 5: Stromung highflow 3" cat, Maddad 3" to 2.5" midpipe, JDM STI genome axle back

Exhaust 6: Stromung highflow 3" cat, Cobb 3" CBE

Before we start, I did all of those different setups within the last 2 weeks. I want to start off by personally thanking Idget for his help & letting me borrow his parts. Also thanks to Shibbs & Curly for watching me swap all this stuff while lol'ing at me.

Sound is all in the eye of the beholder. I was looking for an exhaust that gave a little bit of that subaru boxer rumble while still being tolerable on the road. Looks were also a factor for me. I don't want to start a pissing match, so all of these comments are my personal feelings and expressions.

I'm not a fan of the Cannon style exhaust. I'm also not a fan of loud as hell exhaust. So another words, I don't like the invidea G200 exhaust. Sorry to those who have it, like I said, that's just me.

Exhaust 1: Quietest of all of them. Made good numbers for being made up of mostly stock parts. Would recommend for anyone that is looking to go stage 2 on a budget or wants as close to stock looking as possible.

Exhaust 2: Wow. I REALLY liked this setup. A little tone when you got on it, but dead quiet otherwise. Only complaint: restrictive stock 3rd cat.

Exhaust 3: Very different. Didn't sound like the genome, but didn't sound stock at all. I will provide sound clips later on the hacked sti muffler thread.

Exhaust 4: I didn't like it at all. Sounded like a v8 when I started the car, had interesting sounds when throwing boost at it, but it also had a tin sound to it. I had it on my car for about 24 hours

Exhaust 5: Great. The JDM STI Genome is a wonderful muffler that gives sounds I've never heard on any other setup. It was very quiet at highway speeds along with at idle. I could drive with this as my DD no problems. I loved the sound of it, but for a few reasons I opted not to go with it. 1: Original owner loves it more, he's not selling it and 2. Though the JDM STI Genome mounts better then any other cannon style exhausts I've ever seen, it's still a cannon style.

Exhaust 6: Very quiet, but it lets you know it's still there. It has a very deep bass tone that I enjoy. It also is very quiet at highway speeds along with at idle. Overall it is a high quality product. This was a little quieter then exhaust 5 setup, though the wife said "Did you put that stupid muffler (sti hacked) back on? I heard you come home last night." Apparently she liked the sound of the genome more :dunno:

I ended up sticking with exhaust 6 because that's what the owner (idget) would sell me. I also liked the cobb because it was a little quieter at highway speeds. I miss the musical range of the Genome, but that is life.

I know I didn't talk at all about the exhaust you are asking about, but I just thought I'd throw this out there. Worse case I'll move this post to the hacked STI thread.

I quite like exhaust, too. Mine is fairly quiet, though.

    Sorry.

Jason - like we discussed, I recommend you first install a catless UP ('06+ stocker is fine) and your shorty DP with your stock 3rd kitty/MP/AB and get your '02 2.0L Bullt00ned. If you still need more rublez they can be easily had.

Thanks for all the advice and Ryan's write-up was very informational. I too have a Stromung divorced wastegate coated shorty dp which plan on installing with midpipe welded up and using stock WRX exhaust. Need to buy catless UP so if anybody has anything then let me know otherwise going e-bay or NASIOC route.

BW, Sorry about the bad spelling. Did not look quite right when I typed it, haha. I will be looking you up this Spring when I get this exhaust put together.

Well, PM me if you're interested in that STI catback. It's for sale right now. I haven't posted it publicly until I hear back from someone who told me they were interested in it a few months ago.

Just purchased catless UP from e-bay. Now just have to contact TSTRBOY2004 for fabricating a mid-pipe.

In all fairness, I'll add something of value to this thread.

Check out Perrin for the catback. I had one on my Evo with no cats. Very quiet exhaust. Very nice. Good prices too. Call MAPerformance.

word, this one is quite sexy:

Jason, come out to Firestone in the Spring and listen to a few different set-ups both in car and out. Short of being an idiot and buying half a dozen different set-ups (like me), there really isn't a good way to gauge this kind of thing except for in person.

I prefer a quiet exhaust at idle and cruise, but enough output at WOT so I can hear it just slightly louder than the tires and motor. For me, the maddad whisper was too quiet. Same with the stock sti and gutted stock. Cobb was always my 2nd favorite sounding outside of the car and genome was always #1. After trying out the cobb for a week, I realized that in-car, the gap between #1 and #2 was HUGE! Hated the cobb compared to the genome, but still liked the cobb over any other I've had (whisper, sti, gutted sti, spt, prodrive, cobb, genome).

My Prodrive Catback is perfect. Don't get the SPT it droans at low RPM's in my opinion.

I have a stromung axle back and love it. Not too loud at idle and driving around town, but has a nice little rumble to it. I know youtube isn't very accurate for exhaust clips, but for what it's worth...here is mine
