well i cant change the title.. was supposed to be GREAT, not sure how i threw the E in there lol.. anyways..So i was reading a thread on nasioc and this guy was getting his car tuned and basically his motor crapped out on him. The people commenting on it said it was because the tuner was doing 5th gear pulls and that he had MOBILE 1 5w 30 in it. Maybe the guys that work at the dealerships can chime in but is mobile 1 really that bad for our cars? thats what the dealer has been using in my car for the last year. Its the same stuff they use in the wrx/sti's for all the oil changes.. if its so bad, why do they use it? i know this subject has been beaten to death but if its actually bad for my car then id like to know and stop using it. thanks for the info!
I haven't ran auto part's store oil in years..... I run Schaeffer's in all my car's. I work with a dealer and she got me to buy because I was witness to her dropping the oil out of her van and letting it run for 10 minutes with no oil. The van also had 280,xxx miles on it. Realistically it isnt that much more than regular oil anyway.
Tuning with 5th gear pulls? Lmfaotrollololol. Stop reading nasioc unless you are researching something in particular or if youre looking for some lolz.
if it does turn out to be bad, would amsoil be a good choice? i have no problem ponying up the extra cash to use a good oil.
This brings back my favorite thread of the month. Read through this, oil debate starts on the middle of page one. It even has snap shots on Mobile One's oil breakdown... http://mnsubaru.com/threads/diagnosing-a-rod-knock.37408/
LOL i don't think any f-ing oil is going to save a car doing a 5th gear pull on a dyno from low rpm. it was a 2.0 also. And i think it was also a td04 LOL yea... LOLOLOL
I use shell rotella t6 5w-40, and haven't had an issue yet. Have only heard good things about it as well.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2272080 here is the thread im referring to. Iwas asking the same questions in there so it will be the same as this thread for some of it. Does the minnetonka dealership cary the rotella t6? if they dont, could i bring it in would they do the oil change if i give them the stuff?
I take my oil in if I dont do it myself. I have never ran into any issues. They dont cut the cost any usually but they have never denied putting my oil in. I am talking about out of warranty vehicles though. Your case may be different.
I have no warranty left lol I have an 04, cool I'll get some and bring it in. Now time to fix my massive exhaust leak.
I haven't heard much about it. I just use Amsoil. There's several Amsoil distributors on here. Otherwise you can get Shell Rotella at Walmart I believe.
i ran mobil 1 for nearly 80,000 miles with no problems, blew the VF39 when it had 120k. modded the car a ton and am now running standard Rotella, 16.00 oil changes, u mad?
Get your Rotella at Walmart. 4 quart jugs. Subaru uses whatever synthetic oil they are shipped. I think MTKA uses Valvoline. I am the one that started the Rotella craze here in MN. I got the recommendation from an engine builder in Las Vegas. They helped me get a GT35R from a dirtbag seller that wanted to play games. And afterwards the guy told me that on my built motor I should be using Rotella 5w40HD and nothing else. You can pay the Amsoil premium if you'd like, it performs just as well as the Rotella does. But the Shell does just as good and for essentially 4 bucks a quart, you can't beat it. Mobil 1 goes piss thin at 2000 miles or sooner depending on how you load your motor up. I would recommend switching to either Rotella or Amsoil at your next oil change.
The thing to remember about synth oils, if you are not running extended drain intervals, you are not maximizing your dollars. I run amsoil and I usually do my oil changes around 9k (for us it is 2 times a year). After some samples sent out to blackstone, they suggested that I can continue to use the oil. There is no way in hell I would spring for amsoil and still change it every 3-4-5k. If you don't mind running extended drains intervals, amsoil is a good choice. The other thing to remember, switching oil brands is bad. Every oil leave deposits and every oil has a different detergent package. Constantly changing oil brands is hard on the bearings since the new oil is breaking up the old deposits. Ideally you would stick to 1 oil as long as possible. You also want to do a shorter drain interval after you have switched brands. This will help remove deposits that the new oil is breaking up from the old oil. Any time anyone switches TO amsoil after running something else, I always suggest a 3-5k oil change on the first round, then start running the extended drain intervals. Russ
i use Rotella-T and purolator-1 oil filters. no issues so far car has been running apx 75K on this combo with 24psi of boost on 05 2.0
