How much is a typical price for used heads? If I found a great price on ebay, what should I look for (damage, etc...)? Also, what's the typical price for pnp and 3-way valve job? thanks for the advise peeps!
What you want to look at are the cam journals, make sure they are not overly worn. Checking the combustion chamber for said detonation (small dimples), and if that head has been DROPPED and has cracks anywhere. I'd say a typical PnP and 3angle job would be abouts 800-1700??? You need Double D's!
Fuji, thx!!! OMG, I cannot afford to throw that much at heads...considering I'm buying cams and new internals. any other thoughts? BTW- what is a Double D?
this! as far as port work goes, just make sure you know what your getting. look into the company's methods and make sure you get what the clam you get . not some hack hand port job with un even flow between cylinders. when i was looking for a good port job it was $1100- $2000 from the guys the new what they were doing.
do you have any local shops you suggest? besides chimea, cause i'll hit them up here shortly...for some additional info
besides chimera nothing local. if you can wait a little bit there should be a sweet program coming out with real data and flow results. thats as much as i will say right now.
Headwerks IMHO, is hands down the best in the region, but when i was talking to steve a month or two ago it sounded like he was taking a break from doing heads... odd...but its worth a call
thanks for the input. Ive left a message for DG and reviewed their website. I'll do the same for Headwerks. I honestly didn't know that heads were going to cost me this much. I AM A NEWB Question- IF I simply built used heads with new valves and the BC cams...would I have issues getting them to produce enough flow for 300+ hp? (Without pnp?) Or does that make no sense. I could always do what I mentinoed above, just build the heads without the PnP and valve job...and save up for some built heads next year. The bottom line, I'll be piecing the build together and running my 16g until I can afford the bigger turbo, meth, etc etc. So I could always install the heads at that time
porting is not needed to make the power you want. its something that is going to make your cams shine and just improve overall performance depending on what kind of port work and cams you go with. its something that if i was going to do new bigger cams, valves and springs, i would get port work done.
