okay so here is the deal. my cruise works at lower speeds from 30 up to 72/75 range. but if I were to click the cruise on at say 79 it does fine going up hills and driving on flat ground, but as soon as it is going down hill and needs to let off it cuts out/ stops working. If I hit the resume on a down hill it does not resume, but if it is un an up hill or flat it does resume until the next down hill. I figured out yesterday driving from redwood falls and moorhead that when I set it above 75 if I simply hold the accelerator pedal down some as I am going down a hill it does not cut out. Any ideas???
Yeah, at least all of the newer (maybe it's a 32bit ECU thing) Subaru's have a max that you can set the cruise. I think mine is like ~82 on my 06 WRX. I learned this while driving all the way to Montana.
I do, and when it lets off to slow down so it does not gain speed down the hill it never goes back to the speed I set it at. this is what I do step by step 1. set cruise at 79 2. cruise until I go down a hill 3. cruise cuts out and the car will slow to a stop if I were to let it. I want it to do its job thats why I am asking. brian did a subaru flash on it to fix the problem because there was an update for the car. before the update no matter what speed I set it at it would cut out when ever it need to adjust for speed weather it was for speeding up or slowing down. thats what I ment by "already did that update..." my 02 was 89 for max cruise set. I think driftin240's friend has an 07 and that can be set up to 92 I think or something like that. It is not an issue of it setting at that speed or holding there until it needs to adjust to not go over where I set it at. (going down a hill it lets of to maintain speed but it does not maintain, it just quits doing its job all together.
um.. so Brian flashed it before or after the new tune??? cause the ecu probably isnt gonna retain some of that info maybe??
It was done before my tune by bullwinkle. It is better then what it was when I first got it cuz I can at least use it in most cases. I would just like it to work 100% not only 90%
maybe the cable?? I know some early fords have a recall to check the play in the cable to see if it is within spec as it wouldnt engaged or dis-engage or something
My MY05 outback 2.5i does this. It's been pissing me off too, for no apparent reason (didn't touch the brake/clutch pedals/etc) the cruise will just shut off. Don't know if there is any updates for a flash available, I should look into that. -Steve
The cruise kicks off on mine just as if I had hit the brake pedal/clutch. The secondary green light that comes on when the cruise is active shuts off and just as you stated if I didn't apply throttle with my foot the car would just coast to a stop. The first "cruise" light remains on as if I had 'armed' the system though. Very annoying indeed. -Steve
What about the neutral safety switch. what do you folks know about that??? could that be causing it???
I am reading through it now... seems either the re-flash fixes it or doesnt... either way it all points to the switch.....
well I just tested the neutral switch thing on my drive from moorhead, mn to mpls, mn... anyways... when I set the cruise at 79 and hold the shift lever up in 5th a bit the cruise does NOT shut down. so from what I read that is pointing at the neutral safety switch right? Is that covered under the 5yr 60k drive train warranty?
