I feel your frustration! I can make it over tonight after 7 to help if you want or I can show up for a few hours Saturday morning. Sunday might be wide open as well for me to help. I can help diagnose the car or with your remodeling if you want. I've done building and remodeling before.

What's the possibility that the fuel pump is shutting things off? Either from dying pump, or perhaps some sensor losing signal and telling the engine to shut down. Although the fact that the security light lights up solid is making me think it has nothing to do with the fuel or ignition system.

So I watched your video again...after you take your key out of the ignition at about 0:39, the security light is still flashing. The security light on my subaru's flashes when the theft deterrent system is "armed" (hitting your lock button on your fob engages the security). As soon as I hit the un-arm button (unlock), that light stops flashing (at least on my 06 it stops flashing. On my 08, the light still does the single slow flash). Since that Security light is still flashing when you're trying to started the car leads me to believe that the theft deterrent system is still armed, thus killing the engine.

I may be pointing out the obvious here. However, have you tried simply hitting the unlock button on your remote and/or door unlock to un-arm the system and see if the security light stops flashing and then try starting?

Other quick ideas...neutral safety switch or clutch neutral switch? Although if either of those were bad, I wouldn't think it would start at all...

Nothing new to report. My son pulled through though. He picked up this little gem of a Honda civic for 400 bucks and for once I get to drive a car he bought.

From experience the neutral switch in the manual at least does nothing.

I do remember reading something about arming and disarming the system after an "innocent" was recognized. It was more then just hitting lock or unlock. May be something to look into

So I've got some more questions and suggestions for you, Terry.

What is the 7th digit on the VIN?

Try putting the car into Valet Mode: open the driver's door and keep the UNLOCK button pressed for more than 2 seconds (the security light will continue to flash twice per second 2Hz) to exit VALET mode repeat the process again. When you're in VALET mode try starting the car to see if it runs longer.

Another thing to try: Disconnect the negative battery terminal, turn the ignition to ON and reconnect the cable with the ignition still in the ON position.

Let us know how it goes.

Does the "key reminder" switch of the ignition tumbler/switch work correctly?

I think that is what wakes up the Immobilizer system. If it doesn't see" the key enter the ignition tumbler it doesn't wake up and "ping" the chip in in the key body.

(at least it sounds good in my head...)

I have a buddy that is a member of the iATN forums and has time to research these tough issues. ;)
That forum has some great pros on there and has helped with many a tough issue (like what Terry is going through).

The 7th number in the VIN is 8.

None of the other things worked or made a difference.

According to the VIN decoder I found, an "8" in the 7th position designates a Legacy GT (sedan or wagon). That position gives the model and trim.

7th digit also indicates what type of security systems were in the vehicle when it left the factory, I was just making sure it wasn't a 1 or 2.

Sorry to hear that none of the other checks worked for you. But putting the car into VALET mode essentially bypasses the immobilizer so we can remove that from the equation now (along with the fact that you replaced it all). I read one instance on the iATN forums of one of the relay's pins getting bent when swapping out the BIU. But at this point, it all seems to point to getting under the dash and checking individual wiring for frays/wear/corrosion/bad connections :(

I do NOT have any progress to report, just an update.
The house remodeling is done and now I found some time to work on the car again. I have been going out for a few minutes here and there, but last weekend I got some "quality" time.
Here is how it sets currently. Trying to gain access to the wiring harnesses.

    Terry

Oh, good lord. This makes me want to cry for you if you haven't already done so yourself. :(

I would be hoping for a natural disaster that claims my car, but not my house or family members...well, most of them anyway.

It would be a real shame if you had to park it outside and an avalanche of very heavy snow came down and crushed the car, rendering it unsalvageable. I feel for you Terry.

have you checked out the time out on the fuel pump when it shuts down? i would check to see if it looses voltage when it shuts down, then i would check to see if the ecu is still getting power and sending proper ground right after. do you have to cycle the key to get it to restart? or do you just try from the on position like it had a mis-start? i might have an idea, pm me if you want more info...

Yes I have to cycle the key again to get it to start. If I just try the key without turning the ignition off, it will turn over forever and not fire. If I cycle the key again it will start and die. The security light will only go out if I remove the key from the ignition.

When you start the car does it drive normal or feel like a lack of power before it turns off, also how long does it have to sit before a normal restart?

It's starting to sound like a fuel pump pickup sock is plugged or the relay is on its way out when it gets hot

Car wont stay running to drive it. Starts and immediately dies. Wont do a "normal" start. Just starts and dies.

Fuel pump control module has been replaced. Fuel pump is new with less than 10K on it. DW65C. I ca still hear the pump running after the car dies.

I do not think the fuel filter would trip the security system. It will restart just does not stay running. I have another filter I could swap in, but I cant think of a reason why the filter would cause my security system problems.

Did you try the suggestion from LGT - verify the BIU has a good ground? Maybe run a second, temporary ground to see if that works?

BP Subaru is a Morries dealership... With that said Morries MNTKA has historically been more mod friendly and offers a discount on labor... Shouldn't be any different but it is :/

I might give them a call in the spring, if I have not figured it out by then. They were one of the dealerships that actually acted like they cared when I called.
Haven't done much lately with cold weather and prepping for Christ's Birthday gift exchange.

if the security is being triggered you can try and ohm out the halo antenna reciever on the column that gets a signal from the chipset. want to call me?
