lol 2 Foresters and 9 wrx/sti's (4 of which are 2006 wrx's)! Awesome, I might come watch the mini subiefest!
Don't go forgetting about me, and possibly Zak there as instructors! Come on down, it's pretty interesting to watch, and everyone loves it when people take pictures of their cars flopping around...
Just a note, all spots have been taken! Come, take pictures... laugh... cry (from laughing so hard)... then laugh some more Let's see how my "awesome" Geolanders do. This should be a good way for me to use them up so I can buy new tires. Do we get any points for having the loudest squealing tires? Cuz I might win that one .
Wow, that is going to be nasty. Here's to hoping they're wrong. I'm getting excited though! Really looking forward to it.
anyone want to lend me a WRX for doing instructional runs in? I am probably going to be taking the scooter out there on sunday since my wife will be driving the WRX (it has air conditioning and doesn't overheat in 100 degree weather, features the mini lacks) what this means is when the instructors give rides i would be driving your car. I have codriven a lot of WRX's and am very respectful of people's cars. It would be for about an hour or so, and hey, you get to see what kind of times it can run with a better trained driver behind the wheel, and i can give you better setup and driving advice after driving your car usually too. an modded 06 with good tires would be nice... just saying is all =]
Not sure I would want my car used the whole time. If a few people are willing to split up the time you would need a car I would let YOU ONLY drive mine for part of it.
Instructor runs at lunch time run for about an hour, but there are a lot of instructors, and they have to Q up to take runs. Your cars wouldn't be running for an hour solid, and other students don't get to make runs during this time. If you have wide tyres, just insist that they only take one person at a time. Back in April, a couple of them were loading up the cars and doing bus tours around the course. My brand new Azenis now have score marks around the edges from rubbing that wouldn't otherwise have happened. Grrrrrr. It's a good job I like and respect the instructor who borrowed my car, or he'd've got a swirly for that ! Stuart.
I signed up, paid, was all stoked because i so wanted to do this.... then realized that I have my son's, yes, son's birthday party that day. their sign up says i cant get money back, but I dunno about giving my spot up to someone else under my name and money? i have been trying to figure out a way of negotiating my way into the event for a couple weeks with fam but to no avail.
Stock tires and wheels.... but just about every mod you can do before swapping turbos. Just springs and sway bars right now. Just don't like run the car hard a lot. I take it pretty easy on my car for the most part.
i'll be gentle. I was taxiing around 4 people in my 2500lbs yellow car it it still did ok. I have a lot of experience driving these car and have literally done probably 300-400 runs on this course before, between instructing and driving. I know how not to maul on the tires too. get on mnautox.com and post that up ASAP and I bet someone can take it over, just sign into MAE and change your reg info to theirs once you get money from them
Not too worried about you Zak. I know you have respect. If it is not being driven for a hour strait no big deal. I know you understand where I am coming from.
Midway is pretty easy on the car. With stock sized wheels, you should be fine. Instructors are also told to keep it below 90% in student cars. Zak knows what he's doing, so if you do lend it to him, it'll be in good hands. Actually, it's quite a good way to find out what your car is capable of with a better driver at the helm. It also gives you something to strive for in the afternoon. Stuart.
http://forum.mnautox.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6986 Not sure if this guy already has a spot or not. Can't hurt to check. Stuart.
Yeah take mine. I shoulda got it into the 30 second range but only got to low 31. I know its got 29 in it. If Shane and Neal and Katie wanna drive it that's fine too.
*cough*icerace*cough* I totally blew it on this one. I got swamped with ons of work and was unable to sign up. I will be aiming to be there next spring, hopefully with some tires. (i bet i could win he squelly tire contest now)
When we go there I told Bob to take it easy on the car. We did not take the car above 4000 rpm for the weekend knowing we would be beating on it a bit. The most the car ever saw at IR was 5000 rpm.
which is more than I knew, lol, but I found it:biggrin: . Got my car all empty and ready to go for tomarrow. Had to use masking tape for my numbers cause my printer broke!! So hopefully they stay on. Only thing left to do is stop by and get some air in the morning! Gonna get there about 7:15, who else will be there that early? Maybe meet somewhere nearby for breakfast:yumyum: .....?
I have a decent DV cam I will bring along for the day, I'll try to tape a few Subarus driving while I'm in the 'rest' group and host them for you guys.
Just got the numbers on the car and it's all ready to go except for the tires which will be done in the morning
Yea, that was awesome. Nice meeting all you guys. I'm sunburned and tired as hell, but it was a blast. Oh yeah, and FYI to everyone: nasioc is right, 245/45/17's dont fit on a WRX at stock ride hight without rubbing when you're thrashing them. :ugh:. Looks like I'll be rolling some fenders! istoptofly: What happened, how come you didn't show?
This was a pretty kick-ass way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Took a bunch of pictures, but mostly of group 1. I'll get them uploaded sometime soon. Whoops, uploaded to PaintedOver, which has NSFW ads. ***MY LINKS CONTAIN NSFW ADS***
Awesome, thanks for taking pics of group 1. I hope you got a few of me killing some cones If they would have handed out an award for that I would have won. I'm going to dig through my footage tonight and see what I get. I mostly have shots of group 3. Also, I beat that Evo9 parked next to me by almost 3 tenths! Woot! That Mazdaspeed3 was quick though, stuck it in the 29's all afternoon.
Nice! That MSP3 is a killer autox car, even stock. I think only one of us semi-stock WRX's cracked 30. My best time on the RE92's was 30.022. I had a 29.7xx on my third run with the Falkens, but had to take them off for the afternoon, but I'm sure the car would've done low 29's with them on.
dont worry about he times so much thyere pretty meaningless except as a gauge of personal development. For yall you know that MS3 had cones or DNFd that run (which can often lead to faster times by accidentally cutting an element. I could have run a 25 in matt's STi if I'd have just floored it past the slalom.
Very true. Fun watching you guys run out there, you guys really got his STi sideways on that last turn. I just couldn't get mine to turn in like that. I was riding shotgun here, with the younger instructor driving that had the e36 M3. Can't remember names, sorry. So many guys in and out of my car
Haha! Ask and ye shall receive eh? Cone kill! http://paintedover.com/uploads/show.php?loc=0716&f=dsc00044.jpg Thanks for the shots man, they look great, I really appreciate it.
Great fun. My Forester did me proud, lol. I brought my old Cannon vid cam, did some vids of group 1 during my 'rest' time. A friend stopped by near the end of the 3rd group's afternoon run, took a couple minor vids. I've got nothing of group 2. I hope some others chime in with group 2 and 3 footage. It seems group 1's pretty much covered, lol. I'm not sure when I'll get the vids up yet.
Hah, there's one of the Foresters. That thing was tearing it up. Good job! I've love to see the vids! Really seems like most of us Suby guys where in group 1.
