I'm planning on putting a turbo on my car it is a non turbaned engine so if u know any good brands I should get that would b great to know and any other parts I may need
Nuke right, its better if you just get the lgt but u just got the legacy. Like kongzilla say, avo your best bet......also welcome to the site
Well, once you blow the stock engine you'll have AT LEAST the amount of an LGT into the car. Dont turbo it, drive it like a normal person, and marvel at its reliable simplicity.
A higher compression engine and turbo is possible but is a pain to tune from what I've read in Nasioc and IWSTI. It will be expensive when you think about what you'd need for support mods. Bigger turbo = more air, so you'll need more fuel. Can your fuel system keep up? What are your Injector Duty Cycles at now under full load? Assuming you've got the fuel capacity, then there's the intercooler... I'm sure it can be done but if it isn't done right, you will probably kill the engine.
I would listen to the people that have responded to you already. You have people who build cars and tune cars giving you some advice, which will save you a lot of cash in the long run. It is a bit more intense than just tossing a turbo kit on there. Think about everything else you need to upgrade just to make it work. Then think about everything you will break if you don't upgrade it. Then take everything you have thought of and add $5k - $10k to that price because things will break that you didn't think of.
I had thought about dropping a turbo in my old legacy until I did a little research on it. Definitely a lot more time and money then it's worth.
If you think we were being assholes, how would you react to someone REALLY being an asshole? Reality bites, dude.
Who was being an asshole? If you think Nuke was, take a step back for a second. This isn't the first time this question has come up, and the answer he gave, while short and to the point is also the correct one. If you want to turbocharge a Legacy, you're better off buying one that's been done from the factory. He wasn't saying it to be an ass, he was giving you the right advice. Just because you don't like the answer doesn't mean that he's wrong.
I was asking to see if it was worth putting a turbo on my car now I know it's alot easier to just get a lgt.
To answer your question No, it's not worth it IMHO to put an after market turbo kit onto your 2009 Legacy. If it were me, I'd just drive it as is. Is there a reason for not wanting the Legacy GT in the first place?
Nuke may come off as big a$$ but he is a big teddy bear. Don't let his words intimidate you. He means good. Sometimes.
First car I bought on my own so I had to get what I could afford arm and they didn't have gts in my price range
I was thinking about this some more. Your parts list could be pretty big to do it right. Injectors Fuel Pump Turbo Possibly Fuel Rails Intercooler Up-pipe Down pipe Blow off Boost Controller Tuning Labor if you don't do it all yourself... Then there's the question if your rods / pistons / head gaskets can take the extra power.... To be safe, you'd want to get forged rods, crank and pistons at least. So add the cost of a rebuild (at least one)
http://www.bing.com/search?q=as*holes&qs=n&form=QBLH&pq=as*holes&sc=6-8&sp=-1&sk= To be specific, you asked what brands you should look for in a turbo kit and what other parts were needed to turbo your N/A Legacy. I suppose that the most direct answer would have been "Subaru". As stated before, Subaru did all for you already, and they did it right. That's not to say you can't turbo an N/A Subaru, but it will cost you more to do so yourself than Subaru is going to charge in the price different to an LGT. It is not worth your time and money unless you really love projects that absorb your life and finances. I'd just drive it as-is and save up for an LGT in the future. Also, as a side word of advice, I've never gone to a house party and started calling people assholes at the first sign that they weren't going to be kissing my ass all night and telling me how cool I was. I recommend laying low and trying to listen first before picking the wrong battles with the wrong people. MNSubaru is a great place to meet friends and learn a lot of useful information. Most of my kindest, closest friends and best sources of information on this site are the assholes you're speaking of. Welcome to the site.
