Hey All, Got a buddy of mine who recently had the infamous ceramic main bearing give out on him on his 09 WRX. He's been looking for some time now to get a rebuild done, and he's been getting flaky at best responses from local shops. Ron at RS just never got back to him, DB is booked out until late this year, and it sounds like some other local techs just haven't been replying. Honestly, he's a really knowledgeable guy and is probably going to do more than just a bearing replacement. Good opportunity for local shop to get some work in. Anyone able to give some recommendations??? He's been stuck for like a month with this... I know this is a repost from general, but my buddy really needs some help with this.
Bring it to jm automotive. Jesse has a great engine builder and is very knowledgeable. http://www.jmautomn.com/
I was going to recommend Jesse also. He is very good...but has been very busy lately too. I wish him luck! Darn Subarus, always keeping the local shops/tuners over booked.
I just had my motor worked on at Motors by Gosh: Motors By Gosh Address: 20998 134th Ave N #112, Rogers, MN 55374 Phone763) 898-3992 They're literally next door to DBPerformance I had them bore cylinder walls to fit pistons, polish crankshaft, resurface flywheel, and rebuild my heads and am happy with the work and the price.
If your interested in a new shortblock or engine build at JM we use brand new oem shortblocks and build it to your preferences if your interested you can contact @yuseforester or myself, we work hand and hand on this stuff, got 2 were building currently for customers and just finished up a couple others. Thanks for the recommendations guys.
Whoops, thanks for name drop fellas. Let's start with, as always, if there is a goal for the build let's start from there. Daily driver or race motor? 4032 alloys (CP or Mahle) is often regarded as better for a daily driver than 2618 (Manley, JE, Cosworth ); however there is plenty of conjecture on the subject. Bottom line I believe that if you are putting RACING parts you should be prepared to idle your engine up to temp frequently!
Also this is a pretty good write up: http://www.enginelabs.com/engine-te...-of-mahle-motorsports-reveals-piston-secrets/
