I got the SPT short shifter in my car off the lot. I noticed that there was very little difference between the SPT and stock set up. Has anyone had any luck with a better or more noticeable difference on 08+ WRX short shifters? I am doing some research, and althought this is not high on my list of stuff to upgrade, I might swap it out.

I was told by the dealer... "aftermarket short shifters can cause damage to the transmissions". Don't really believe that, but either way I put an SPT short shifter in and took out the Agency Power one. I can tell the difference between the two, but I am fine with it. The aftermarket one seems to make the shifting notchy. For me, (at this point) it's not a race car. It's a grocery and kid hauling car...

    Yeah don't want notchy.

Would swapping out the bushing be a better way to take care of this.... or make a more noticable difference?

I had the solid shifter bushing in there and that probably made it worse. I ended up with the STi rear bushing and the STP shifter. Works great. Putting a lower profile shift knob on there helps too (just barely).

If you put a stiffer bushing in (definately with the solid ones) you will get a lot more tranny noise in the cabin. That is very annoying.
