Was wondering what it would take to get my car down to 12 seconds or better in the 1/4 mile. Its a 2009 WRX Premium. It has an Astrostart with a Smartstart Module so you can start it with your phone. This has to keep working no matter what mods are done. As far as the rest of the car it has the short throw shifter from subaru, Invidia Q300 Catback, Invidia Divorced Wastgate Downpipe without Cats, K&N Drop in filter, Cobb Accessport and was tuned at DB performance in Rogers. Most of the stuff done to it was so later I could go E-85 if need be. The biggest thing is I need it to still be reliable in our weather and the autostart to work.
I would have to guess with good rubber and a good driver you should be close to 12 already. There are reports that have been verified of stock WRXs pulling 13.1-13.3.
Yes I was thinking bigger injectors, fuel pump and a tune. Tires and rims might be a problem they are 18in Rota G-Force with 245/40/18 Dunlops. I dont really want to spend too much and dont want to upgrade tranny or clutch. I was thinking that the mods above and maybe it could be done. The tire and rim thing might be a issue. I cant really have a blown motor or trans.
A stage 2 should net u high 12 with proper driving. Stage 2 e85 should easily get you into high 12s if amatuer driving. Get into the 13s with it and let your car diaf
At proving grounds I ran a 13.02 @104.3 mph with pretty much the same upgrades I have a 2011 wrx base so might be a little lighter, stock rim and tires. with a better driver could of hit high 12's. Heat soak was my only real issue over the weekend with the stock tmic, switching that out and just a tad more boost maybe should be in the high 12's
The OP is talking about 12 flat or better, not 12's...right? Someone who knows, chime in. I'm interested from a pure knowledge standpoint as well.
Yep was just trying to figure out how to get there. Or even if it was worth trying. At some point I have to make a decision on what path to follow. At some point I could go to far. Say blown motor, tranny or clutch. In the long run I might have been better off going to a different car completely rather than wreaking things left and right. lol. I prob have 30k into this thing already. Not to bad but if I have a 25k mile car on its 2nd engine tranny and clutch because I decided to go E-85 or something its a little harder to justify the changes. I just dont want to take things to far either. One other thing Im located in Fargo. Finding tuners is a pain.
I did 12.91 at 106mph with only injectors and fuel on e85 with everything else completely stock making 291whp in my 05 Sti. Crappy launch, full weight.
[email protected] in a 2012 WRX, only mods were a sway bar, and larger 245/45/17 tires which probably had a negative impact on performance. I probably could have ran a 12 with stock tires and a tune. Stage 2 on 91 12s should be easy.
Going E85 is better for the engine in a lot of ways. I would not worry about just going E85. It's when you start talking about bigger turbos that you have to make upgrades to support your power.
I saw your car on Saturday. I thought it was just the clutch? Anyways.... I guess I should clarify. Same power levels, gas vs E85.... the E85 burns cooler. I stand by my internet educated statement.
Well, it is my fault. I knew E85 to be a fairly low risk option. Not a no risk option and I took it anyway. Now I'm f'd. Expensive lesson. I'd rather not see other people learn it the hard way. On the (rather massive) plus side, the kind of support I've been seeing has forcefully changing my attitude and perspective for the better. I'm going to come out the other side a lot less asshole'ish me thinx.
I really don't think E85 was the cause of your issue. IMHO.... I wouldn't pitch fork and torch E85 at this point.
Agreed, If anything, E85 is what kept it alive this long. More fuel = cooler pistons, doesnt help with their strength though.
If anything a good E85 tune should be less likely to crack a piston (at any given power level vs. pump gas). I think you just had some bad timing. Should have done E85 sooner! Haha.
Maybe. The idea was to stay on the conservative side from the beginning... Anyway, enough thread jacking.
Just so you do know I did run 12's with three cylinder lol. here the proof look at the smoke coming out
