i gotta see this thing when its done. blackzpremacy made me a lover of nissan Z's letting me drive his tt'd 300zx but at 1900lbs and w sr power this little thing should be nuts.
Oh dear god no. I don't think I'm going to do another classic car again either. So much more stressful than a newer car.
I'm gonna be doing some of the welding on this coming up, as Jason wants things to get moving along, and would like to be driving it by the end of summer.
No siree, I think its pretty much ready to be coated though. I have to touch up some spots on the body, add some metal here and there, and then off to my in-law's "paint booth"
The suspension needs to be stripped from the frame, along with the rear-end. Then it is ready to head to powdercoat. The body has a few spots that need some attention. It all depends on who gets there first. Mike Wray said he'd work on it, and Erik said he could also do it. It's just a matter of who can make it out here and do the welds. Once the welds are done, I'll spend some time with the body filler and get it all smoothed over and it'll be ready to paint. My goal is to have it painted, the frame coated, the suspension and brakes assembled on the frame, and the motor assembled and mounted to the frame with the body painted and ready to drop on by my birthday in late May.
Let me know if you need an extra hand ever. I'm not to far away and dont mind helping. I can weld also if you can't wait for either one of other two.
I was talking to Mike at Twin City Powdercoating (763.785.7900) today, I mentioned that there were projects happening on the board he might want a crack at. He was definately interested in doing a car frame. I'm going to have another set of rims done there soon.
Predavore, much thanks. The price quoted on the phone was OUTSTANDING. If you're looking to get big projects blasted and coated, I highly recommend them for the price alone. 5 year guarantee on the powdercoat finish too, which is a plus. I'm definately going to talk more in depth with him once I get the suspension off of the frame, he may do all those parts too, if the price is right. But I'm looking to dump it off at their facility in the next couple weeks.
Also, who wants to join me this Saturday to finish yanking the rear diff and suspension arms off the frame so I can get it ready to roll? I need to have every bolt and nut out of the front suspension arms, and remove one leaf spring from the back. Then the frame will be 100% stripped down and I can start loading it up in boxes to go to the blast and coat guys.
Right on man, it shouldn't take long. Just a few dozen bolts and nuts to remove. The goal would be to get everything laid out and into boxes if possible so I can haul it off. I should have my new van in a couple weeks, and I can probably get the frame in the back of the car. The total width of the frame without wheels is 4' or so. And the width in the van is a little over 5'. So I'd imagine a few guys could hump it into the van to be hauled out to the coating place. We'll worry about that when teh time comes though.
Yeah, you're welcome to stop by, but excuse the mess, I'm finishing the basement and the basement is where the Christmas crap usually goes...so it is total anarchy in here.
