Had big plans for this pile, but need funding for the current dd's issue's. The long story short is I picked this up from a guy in Buffalo to replace my Legacy. Needed a car asap because I'd been renting one to get to work. I paid $1600 for it after a 10 minute test drive, everything seemed fine and I wasn't going to nit pick over little things given the price and having been promised up and down that it was in perfect mechanical condition. Being in a hurry and far from home I handed over the cash and was on my way. 2 days later the transmission went out, like dead/gone/not just a gear fried/not coming back kind of out. I had it towed to Forest Lake, and after starting it to get it off the truck it hasn't started since. Battery is testing good, but the lights wont even come on and it will not turn over. I called the guy I bought it from immediately and he wasn't willing to be informative about anything, but based off of what I was told initially about it, I wouldn't trust to be accurate anyway. So it's been sitting for the past 3 months, waiting to be turned into a rally project come spring but as mentioned my daily now needs some attention. Here are the specs on what I know about it: 98' Forester L Green exterior Tan cloth interior 198k miles Interior and dash/console is in good condition ($1-$200) Most panels except for the right quarter (rust) and left passenger door (scrape and dent) are in great condition ($20-$100) Headlights - good ($20 each) Left taillight has a cracked lens, Right taillight is good (Left $0, Right $20) Bumper covers - good ($50 each) Grille - good ($15) Tires are at 70% Continental all-seasons on stock rims ($125 for all 4) All other parts are stock, can't garuntee condition or history on most parts, all pricing is negotiable, willing to sell complete car for $800 - again negotiable. I will have pics posted Thursday after I get a chance to take more. It is currently located in Forest Lake, I live in Minnetonka and willing to meet in the metro area. Not 100% sure. When it was running the engine seemed fine, no knocks, or leaks that I could tell. Being that it isn't starting right now I'm thinking it has a possible electrical issue, however I could be way off. I was told the head gaskets were done just before it was sold and it currently has 198k miles. I should have some time this weekend to dig into a little and will take pics when I'm up north tommorow.
Thanks , found a good wrx engine swap candidate for it the other day too so it's a pretty big bummer. Trucks got a bunch of routine maintence stuff coming quick, and had some old lady side swiped it in my parking lot last week. She doesn't have insurance and mine will go up if I make a claim so she's just going to pay me a little bit every week for what parts cost and I'll just do the work. But I had to replace both driver side doors at least for now ($550) to avoid climbing through the passenger every time. Don't really want to dip into what I've got saved for a house down payment so I figured I'll just pick up a different project this summer if this sells.
Sorry for the delay on pics, won't have a chance to get up to Forest Lake til tomorrow. I don't remember any rust on the hatch and yes that fuzzy blob is the factory spoiler. Will be posting pics by tomorrow night.
That's a correct assumption. Was running fine the first day I had it, the second day it started slipping through 2nd and 3rd in the morning, on the way home it literally grinded itself to a halt.
Do you have the shifter indicator plastic p r n d 321 thing? If so may I buy it? Sorry to hear about your loss that would be a fun project to dissect the transmission and rebuild maybe? Very interested in shift indicator plastic deal. Feel free to pm!

Well the shell just got hauled away to the scrap yard, the only remaining parts I have are: *full sized spare tire 90% tread left ($20) *tan/camel colored privacy shade for the hatch ($10) *weather mat for hatch area ($10) *owners manual free *headlights ($10 each) *grille ($10) *right side tail light ($10) *battery 4/13 ($30) I apologize to those who needed parts that were crap and to those I wasn't able to get back to. I've been extremely busy the past couple months. If anyone needs the remaining parts I work in Minnetonka and live in Blaine, happy to meet at either location or on the way to either.
