Hello everyone, In_Car_Nation will be hosting their first annual memorial cruise on Dec. 8th. We are set to leave the AutoMotorPlex (8200 Audubon Rd, Chanhassen, MN 55317 / Cars and Coffee location) at 1pm. Please show up 15-20 minutes early to ensure everything gets started smoothly, and to hear a word from the ICN crew. This will be a 75 mile cruise around the 494/694 loop. We currently have 270+ cars going, and are working with news outlets to mention this cruise. WCCO, KSTP, and 93x have already given this a shout out. All makes and models are welcomed to join. 8200 Audubon Rd, Chanhassen, MN 55317
Honestly, first we give this new In Car Nation group a hard time because they were trying to start a new car enthusiast group...and now it sounds like they apparently have a large group and a fair amount of publicity (aka success?) and more ragging on them. No hard feelings Brett, but give them a chance. Anyway, I will be out of town and unable to attend. Are there any charities set up for the event?
I'm not saying that they're going to fail, i'm saying that the MN car scene is full of retards, and collecting 300 of them in a group at once and touring the twin cities with them is likely going to end poorly for some. Edit: seems they are working to have a police escort. My statement about mn being full of retards stands, but I retract my negative comments about the group organizing.
I read on another forum that there is a possible police escort for the cruise? If true, very good idea and I retract my negative comments.
There is no police escort they do not do that anymore for stuff like this as I am told from the fb event. I am hesitant to go to this, 300+ people all doing the 494/694 loop sounds like a traffic jam and a lot of p***** off non cruisers. I would rather see a event at some indoor establishment where people can donate money, or do a silent auction.
Yes, we are working with the state patrol to have them escort the entire lot of cars. We had a sit down meeting with the owner of the AutoMotorPlex this morning and he is more than willing to let us use part of his property to set up the beginning of our cruise.(The overflow lot, as well as the back lot where the American cars park during C+C.) He was really supportive and offered to give us a hand, and even use his scissor lift to get some good video and photo shots. TMF, we are currently looking into ways to raise money for charity. Of which all money raised will be donated to Reach Out World Wide.
A police escort for an event in rememberance of an actor that starred in a bunch of movies about street racing. What am I missing here? Is this cruise going to be conducted at 110 mph?
Half tempted to go just to see what a huge clusterfvck it is but on the other hand, I can probably find more useful things to do with my time.
So to remember an actor that died in a car crash, you want to gather a bunch people on a day where it's supposed to snow, with a low temp in the negatives and take them on a long drive with a police escort (because they'll have nothing better to do that day). So basically you're honoring a guy that died in a car crash by significantly increasing not only the groups chances of getting into an accident, but also the general public by causing a rather large distracting on a well used roadway. Seems legit.
Picking a road out of a hat doesn't make a "planned route" and its a piss poor plan regardless. Yes its a sunday, a sunday with low temps and snow in the forecast. It's a sunday in a busy holiday season where everyone is using their sundays and weekends to do their last minute holiday shopping. Instead of doing something MILDLY sensible like holding a meet to gather donations, they want to parade a large distraction down busy roadways increasing the probability of accidents, the very thing that killed the person they're "remembering" in the first place. Obviously, people will do what they want. But, at best this a poorly planned, irresponsible grab for attention.
I work that day... But figuring I'll get to hang out with a few of them when they get brought in to my ED
Channel 9 had a mention of this event on their morning show today. Makes me wonder if there will be any coverage on their later news today. Made the channel 5 morning show too.
Any reports on how this went yet? I heard the local cops were setting up speed traps along the route.
Seventy-eight speeding tickets (too fast for conditions), 34 multi-car crashes, 17 single-car crashes, 14 hospitalized (no deaths, no reason to be completely morbid here), and 253 citations for poor vehicular fashion sense.
It wasn't bad, grouping was pretty ****ed up, but also based on conditions lots of our cruise was done by driving in the left lane passing cars with flashers on *smh* Not typical cruise
Hopefully no issues? My "stay away or incur more surprise repair bills" alarm was blaring too loud for me to attend. Yes, I have one of those now...
I'm hoping it has a mute/vibrate feature as well as the add-on "Spousal Oil Change Interval" flashing light.
