I think your best bet would be to pull the entire engine and go from there. ( I know it sounds like a big deal, it really isnt too bad.)
I dont think the oil pan can be completely removed with the engine in the car, or at least I dont think it can be done practically.
as far as popping a bearing in, you would have to split the block and take all the pistons out and go from there, I would suggest at least doing rings when you are in there, and Rod and main bearings of course.
so to answer your question no, you cannot service any of the bearings (rod, crank) with the engine in the car. are you sure the car dosnt just have piston slap? its pretty common in subaru engines. it is normal to have a little slap when cold at idle, but your car should be pretty quiet when warm (aside from injector ticking)

do a search on pulling an engine and go from there.

im almost positive you can pull the pan out but i just need to know if you can get at the rotating assembly or if there is some built in griddle cause i thinks its just one rod bearing cause it only makes the noise under an engine load

The oil pump gallies cover up servicing cylinder #1. It's HARD to get to the rod bearings and end cap nuts. I recommend taking the motor out and splitting the block. You NEVER know which bearing is going out, so split it.

Could it be some piston slap? Kyle's car has perma slap and it eats clutches ;).

What I'm saying is don't go jumping to conclusions and tearing the motor out before getting a couple of opinions. How violent is the knock? Any squeaking associated with it? When does it knock? All the time? Just off idle? High RPM? These are all factors.

usually you can pull a plug wire and put a big load on the engine and if its the cylinder that you pulled the wire off of then it wont knock and the knock is not that bad but it doesnt make any noise at idle just when reving it up a little

You can take the pan off the motor with it still in the car. I have done this probably 4 or 5 times now. I have no clue how accessible the rotating assembly will be though. It just might be easier to pull the motor out. It would really suck working in a tight space.

I have no clue if you will be able to slide a new bearing in without splitting it. I tink you should let it warm up and clean it out with ATF or seafoam before you lunge into open heart surgery
