Ok guys, it turns out that the engine in my 03 WRX is hatched and I am going to put a 2.5 short block in it. I did a search and found one thread about it, but I need some clarification on a few things. Also where is the best/cheapest place to buy these parts? Morries?

    The parts list so far:
    -STI shortblock(04/05 correct?)
    -EJ25 gasket kit
    -EJ25 head gaskets
    -EJ25 head studs
    -water pump
    -oil pump
    -timing belt and pulleys
    -clutch
    -larger injectors(565+)
    -BCS
    -programming

    Anything else?

You'll want knock sensors as well. Also probably stronger gears for your trans. ;)

I also recommend a club membership for a deal on said parts.

New knock sensors because the WRX sensors won't fit?

They'll fit, but they're not the same sensors as the 2.5 uses. I guess they "pick up different frequencies" which makes sense to me since the case design of the 2.5 is different from the 2.0.

The knock sensor is likely tuned to some kind of resonant frequency of the block itself as sort of a noise cancelling thing. The WRX knock sensor may or may not pick up oddities and report them as knock events. In any case, I'd replace it with an STi knock sensor to be safe.

Also, I'd go with something larger than pinks for injectors. Something in the mid 600 range. It'll give you a little more headroom. And you'll want a tune after all this is installed.

Thanks guys. Ok, so EJ25 knock sensors it is.

Larger injectors are in the mix as well. Thanks for the size recommendation.

    Anything else?

What is a good clutch upgrade when dealing with a mildly modified EJ25/20?

Stock Subaru clutches are made by Exedy, if I remember correctly.

That in mind, I would stay stick with Exedy, and stay away from Spec from what I've heard.

i disagree the only thing you need is new gaskets i just did this swap on my i upgraded some things but overall just the gaskets i have over 8k on my swap now, NO problems!
on i side note i upgraded my fuel pump injectors and got an sti oil pump. if u have any questions i can prolly get all the part numbers off my receipts for you.

still has to go through the ecu which is programmed to pick up whatever frequencies it wants.
the sensor isn't gonna do much.
most of the knocks i've seen from the hybrids happens on very low loads which isn't much.

you're fine with your stock knock sensor

I have read the thread from when you did your swap. So just to clarify, you are saying that all you need are new gaskets? I can see how you might be able to get away with that. In my case, I just bought the car and do not know the maint history. This is the reason for the water pump, oil pump, timing belt kit, etc. I would have to replace the head bolts anyway so I will install studs while I am in there.

Glad to hear that yours is running well.

it runs great. I would defiantly do the timing belt water pump oil pump etc. while your in there. the head studs can be reused as i was told buy a master subaru tech here in moorhead mn, although i put in some arp ones. Im running 18 psi on the stock wrx turbo (Grimmspeed bcs) with sti pinks and a walbro 255 and made 300ft lbs and 230 hp to the wheels at rs. I will say the wrx turbo is way!!! to small but it goes like a raped ape in low rpms 3300 im at full boost.I also have a perrin crank pulley. My setup has beaten a stage one STi 2005.
