Driver complains of oil loss and burning oil smell. He drove home 180 miles with no oil loss. I checked the valve covers on both sides and I could find no sign of leakage. Oil is found on the passenger top of the engine in the engine crevices in pools under the intake manifold. Anyone have a clue what I should look at? I think this is a 2.5 SOHC.

Something easily replaceable? Anything else that should be replaced?

SUPER easy to replace, remove alternator to gain acess to it. Its a single wire switch.

Dug into it this afternoon. The switch was screwed in to a bolt nut, what looks like teflon thread sealer was used on both. Both the switch and this boltnut came off together and with my meager tool set I couldn't separate them. Visually this doesn't look like the source of the copious amounts of oil on the top side of this engine.

Does the leaking come out around the switch or else where because of the switch. Is it normal for the switch to be installed in the manner I described?

I've had a couple where the plastic part cracked and leaked a good amount of oil on the top of the motor. One had a black puddle of oil on the motor.

Yes that is the normal installation.

There is also a very similar plug behind the intake manifold on top of the block that could be leaking, low probability, but shouldn't be hard to check.

I would also look at the crankcase and head breather vent hoses to see if they are leaking, cracked, or otherwise not quite right.

    Good luck.
