I bought my 2005 STI in early 2010 from the dealer (no warranty). Now it has about 121k miles in it. Here's my problem: -CEL light on but car runs fine -Code reads engine misfire (don't know which cylinder then) -Replaced spark plug with OEM NGK from White Bear Subaru -Code reset -1 month later (as of last week), CEL comes back on -Autozone reads "cylinder 3 misfire". The CEL doesn't seem to effect my performance whatsoever as it did with the previous CEL. Help! I don't know what my problem is ( using the search bar is not one of my problem ). I read online that I could try swapping the coil from 3 with 1, also clean the MAF sensor. At 121K miles, what engine components must I consider replacing? Correct me if I'm wrong on the cylinder diagram, front 2=1 4=3 back Thank you!!
you got the cylinders correct have you tried a compression test? swap injector and/or coilpack to a different cylinder, to see if the misfire moves from cylinder?
Yeah, that's my next move when it gets cooler. I'm not trying to mess around in my unvented garage during today's heat advisory. Haha. Thanks for the quick reply Nuke.
I'm going to guess that it has a lightweight flywheel and lightweight pulley, causing the engine to throw a misfire code, but you don't actually feel the car misfire. When then engine actually misfires, you will definitely notice it. ~Dan
