Is the $20 for ppl not staying at the cabins for the whole weekend? Also, any enforced safety equipment requirements (like helmets or anything)? This sounds like boat loads of fun. Also, anyone know if the local hotels fill up before hand or are there plenty of nearby rooms available?
it is really bad in the morning, while hungover. Someone said the lake is the fastest way, but i find that scary.
I am Karen--my husband and I host this event. The $20 is for the people who are not staying here at the resort. No safety equipment is needed--although if you have any tow ropes we can always use more to pull people out of the snowbanks This event is not sanctioned. Everyone drives one at a time. We usually do timing on Saturday morning/afternoon but this is just for bragging rights and to try to beat your own personal times. It's a great way to learn how to drive on icy conditions and get a real feel for your own car--who knows, the techniques you learn could save you in the future on the real roads. There are 3 motel/hotels in town which is about 10 miles from here. There should be plenty of openings available in town. They get quite a few snowmobilers in the winter depending on the amount of snow but I don't think they get enough to fill everything up. We have had years where we've been able to drive from the resort straight across the lake into town about 8 miles but good luck finding your way around the 40 or 50 some islands if you're not familiar with this lake It's a great way to meet other members from the forum. You will learn a ton about the mechanics of Subarus. Someone always manages to break down and it's funny to hear everyones opinions on how to fix it. A lot of the members drink but there are a number that don't. You can drive all day or all night. Cars are usually out on the track even at 2 or 3 am. We have a nice fire on the lake on Saturday evenings with a fish fry & sausage roast that everyone seems to love. Maybe Readymix can do some more cone bowling to entertain us all again with his car. Feel free to ask any other questions. If you want, we can get you on the back-up list for a spot here at the resort if anything should open up.
Wow, I had no idea you can run anytime you want. With that being said, is there a gas station near by? I have a feeling I'll be going through alot of fuel.
a full tank enough for the weekend? I'm just thinking of my drag racing days. when it was free runs, I'd go through a tank a day. but then again, I have a stock car now.
last year I only had to fill up once during the weekend and I was out on the ice more than most people
Excellent. Thank you to you and your hubby for hosting such a fun sounding (and no doubt actually very fun in person) event. I just told my girlfriend to tell her work now that that weekend is off limits!! Sounds like the available space in the cabins is gone (filled in 3 days :eek4, but certainly add me to the backup list for a private room should so many people fall off the end of the earth between now and then!
well yea filling up once is pretty much a required over the weekend. one time i did manage 8mph on with the wagacy that did include roughly 40 miles of highway haha. i think i filled up around 100 miles
^ sally about that im thinking there isnt much or any. might want to check out one of those e85 websites with pump locations.... EDIT, according to this website there is one in about 13 miles from orr, besides that the closest one is in Virginia. http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/stations/find_station.php
I burned 2 full tanks of gas over the weekend just on the ice. I spent a crazy amount of time on the ice. I was teaching the wife a few things behind the wheel as well.
Turbo cars tend to use more fuel, naturally. I think Jeremy's SS used way more fuel than his RS did, even though they have the same power.
right now there is about as much ice on the lake as there was at the 1st ice race, and there is only around 4 inches of snow. I should be able to make a mile long course with no problem unless we get LOTS of snow and it gets warm.
This is true. Both the last ones where he was nice enough to let me take the SS T-leg I used 2+ tanks of gas for the weekend. I better have a T-leg of my own this year...
starting to get excited for this! just need to find an n/a 2.5 block asap...argh. also, i should have a set of gold 02-05 wrx stockers with 20% left blizzaks for sale shortly if anyone wants them.
I may show up for this. Is there a limit to how many cars attend this or is the limit pretty much for the cabins. I'll just sleep in the car. Wagons FTW.
Both my cars got the same mileage on the way up there, but the tleg did burn far more gas on the ice.
i vote for a long track like last years 2nd ice race, that track was awsome. And zomg just got my new snow tires and i am ready!!!
I also vote for places to park on the lake and spectate. not sure if that is possible or not rich but I know the first time I was up there half the fun was sitting in my car and watching others go around the course while I was able to stay warm in my car. anyways thats my 2 cents worth but you do what you want because you run a great show.
I will make sure and make a few places for you to watch. There is no limit on the cars just one the cabin space.
I also vote for a long track. That would be sweet. If you make some sweet corners i am sure it would make for some great photo ops.
So I am a total n00b is this has already been mentioned, but I don't want to read 33 pages right now. Could we also have an oval like the first one? That was a blast and allowed for more people to be running at the same time since there were 2 courses.
there will be an oval course if there isnt alot of snow, I will plow the main course 1st and then the practice after. As of right now there is no slush and 14 inches of ice,so im guessing there will be no problem plowing. We got 5 inches of snow today and now its drizzleing and 16 above:dunno:
damn i would love to snake a floor spot even but i could only probably make it up friday night. I'm going to be tied up with work during the week
