TthP ... spend a day sitting by a road to work on your panning skills. You have a solid foundation, keep working on it!!... Practice Practice Practice! ::
i agree with you totally my panning skillz are WEAK! I have had little experience working with moving subjects. thanks for the exercise tip. I tried to pic a spot on a car.. their number a logo and use that as a spot to try and keep with. but while some section are clearer on the car then others... is that due to the aperture size? My photo skills are pretty amateur and I am trying to improve them so any advice and or criticism is welcome. Brian the last pics were stage 4 the others were stage 14

Just a straight conversion on these. I will start doing a real PP on them in the next day or 2. Link to the gallery. http://www.rlsmotorsports.com/Automotive/Ojibwe-09/9472820_kCnGD#635772698_k3H6T If you would like any of the full size hi-res versions, let me know. Russ
DUDE, It is like watching it in slow motion, you were so cautious, and it still happened. I'm just glad you were able to run day 2!
it was really lame. i felt it wanting to spin and with a vw sitting on my tail maybe 30ft back we would probably have been in bad shape if I had let it - so I tried to keep it going forward, over-corrected, came to the edge and then we just slid down
I didn't know I could say Dude so fast, so many times!!! I was saying it because I had my eyes focused on the tree we were sliding into. Thanks gawd that rock stopped us!
the LOLTi was the service vehicle to be in during transits to service someone should donate a set of those to the zip tie team. i also have a dorky pic of the whole crew that i am thinking about posting
Dude, I think that's the one from my '94 Jetta if you still have it! E-mail me at comicozzie (at) juno (dot) com . Thanks!
This was my 24th year shooting the event. Good times! Here's the link to the gallery... captions will be going up over the next few days as I have time: http://www.comicozzie.com/gallery2/v/2009/OF09/ I was working triple duty this weekend: 1) Rally-America photographer 2) official event photographer, and 3) writer / photographer for Dusty Times magazine Spectator! sweet! thanks jerry - look at that wheel and fender - they're still in the proper place! when we went by you on ss15 we were really puttering along because I couldn't go over 40mph on gravel without it really getting screwy. I hope dave will put a pic of our control arm up soon
yep. the SRT-4 is probably one of the better modern FWD rally platforms out there. all of the ecu stuff was developed on pre production srt-4 rally cars back in 02. several of the mopar engineers on that car and in the SRT division are rally drivers. they are the ones who developed all the ecu maps and stuff like the lauch control.
took a couple pictures of the park expose from the bleachers on Friday, I'm going to try to merge them into one panoramic shot. I got a bunch of video of that first stage, hopefully I'll have some time tomorrow to go through it all. I also got this as we were getting ready to leave:
They're not weak, just not quite refined. From looking at your photos you're using too low of a shutter speed, crank it up a bit until you get comfortable. Those shots you were trying to take would be extremely difficult even for a seasoned photographer. Where you the one of the guys on top of the hill at the start of ss15 or the guy that refused to take the high 3/4 shot... hahaa... Nice Stuff!
seemed like with the lighting i could shoot anything faster then 1/800 sec or else they were coming out too dark
You should probably be in the 1/200 area. You can get a little slow or a little faster depending on the light, but that is a good starting point between crisp shots and still keeping the car moving. 1/800 would probably get the car to stop on any kind of slower corner so without any dirt flying, it would looked parked. Russ
The photos you posted were shot at like 1/20 to 1/40 ... For being such tight areas its very difficult to pan that, especially if you have a longer lens on. Shooting at 1/800 or faster would have created the opposite effect. Everything would have been frozen.
i think what you meant was, bent control arm is bent. the lighting in that pic kinda makes it look sad.
Maybe it was 1/20 1/40 I kept changing it around seem like what the camera said was proper exposure look to me to be over exposed the corner we had saterday had a lot of trees around so the kind messed with me a bit. Hopefully by next year my skills should be refined. If u see some one standing by the road shooting pics don't worry its just me practicing
the old ACR neons are pretty good rally cars too. but you dont really need an ACR as you will rip off just about everything that makes it an ACR.
Control Arm Looks fine to me Carl.. Whats Wrong with it?? lol rocks are natural metal benders, why spend money on man made benders? Good Pics Everyone! The Rally was a good time.
yeah it was nice to see you there Dave! I'm sorry Bob ran into some bad luck. I finally had a chance to speak with him and he seems like a real nice guy. I hope to see you guys at LSPR!!! Oh...and thanks for the Plasma!!!:yumyum:
No Problem with the plasma, we'll have plenty more at LSPR! If you would like to buy Plasma Energy Drinks you can check your local Liquer store, Bar, or Holiday Gas stations. Thats the main place they have it right now. or go to www.shop.drinkplasma.com and the regular website for anyone interested in checking out the energy drink, www.drinkplasma.com They are one of our sponsors "Rallyworx" Yeah Bob had bad luck again with an off and DNF on Friday, (like Carl) and a Huge Stick through the radiator. One of the polish guys hit a tree right b4 Bob came through and knocked it down... Better luck at New York next month and LSPR after that. It was nice meeting you Scuba Steve and the Ziptie crew!
can't wait for LSPR, i've been coming up with a plan to get me back on target and more on the pace of NT2 prior to all our misfortune that sapped a lot of my confidence.
From what I saw, you looked alot quicker on stage 13 compared to stage 2. I think the confidence thing will come back. and on stage 9 from my corner I didn't even see you hit the brakes!! I thought that seemed kinda confident.
you and me both bud.... going through OFR still feeling the pain from NT3 didn't help me... I know we'll both be going to LSPR looking for a fight!!!
sucks we only had three stages to work on our skills friday night. Yes, we were talking about that saturday...it was really starting to click as the day progressed. his driving and my note reading was finally coming together.
