I do not want it to be 65 degrees in my car when I have a coat on. I would like to have a "little" heat. You know, like the old red-to-blue knob. This is especially frustrating in spring, fall, or winters like this one. Has anyone come up with a hack for this? Like a resistor on the sensor that changes the range? Is it the same HVAC control in the 2012 models? Thx!
Set it to: Auto - Auto - 70degrees I haven't touched mine in like a year. I'll occasionally have to turn up the fan speed if it starts fogging up, but the auto temp controls seem to do a very good job keeping it comfortable. BTW, I'm pretty sure the "65 degree" setting, and the "Cold" setting (if it had red/blue) would be the same thing (if you're not on auto). Also, if you turn it past 65, there is one more click that is the coldest.
Hey! No, 70 degrees in the car is no good when it's 40 outside. I had an '02 WRX and the blue-red setting would give you a "little" heat. When you set it to 65, and it's less than 65 in the car, you will get HEAT. The little click below 65 is "off." So my choices are "HEAT" or "OFF." I know I heard complaints from other 09 owners. I was wondering if there is a hack, or if the system was changed in newer models. Does anyone know? Thx!
Yep, there's no comfortable "low heat" setting. I just turn one knob to the notch above Auto, the other to 65 and just live with it. I turn it off if it gets too hot.
If you put it on auto, then it does this for you ....automatically! I guess I don't mind that it blows HOT air out for a minute or two when you have it set to 65 and "auto". Once the car actually gets up to 65, then it shuts off or slows down so that it's just enough to maintain that temp. It's just doing what it's designed to do. And I still think that if you put it on a manual fan setting (not auto), and then set the temp knob to whatever, that it's the exact same thing you'd get if you turned the blue/red knob to the same spot on the older cars.
Yeah it blows hot air until it's 65 in the car. No good! No, manual is not the same as red/blue. Stop it!
I do the exact same thing in my WRX. However, in our Explorer I always have it on Auto. It seems to work better in the Ford, or maybe it is just the difference in internal cabin space.
I can't believe people are honestly fooled by the fact that there are numbers written on the dial instead of colors. The manual settings are exactly the same. If you don't turn the first to knobs to "Auto", then it functions exactly as if it were a "red and blue" knob. Lol. Quit being a bunch of whiners. Auto does exactly what it was designed to do (ie. gets the car to the set temperature as quickly as possible), and manual works exactly like it always used to. Put some red and blue tape on the knob if it makes you feel better. OK, feel free to start calling me names now.
No problems here with my 09. I also set it to "Auto, Auto, 65" or some other temp and it seems to be okay for me.
I don't think you're understanding what we're complaining about, or maybe I'm complaining about something else. But if you set the the dial to Auto, it will keep heating up to whatever temp you set it to. On warmer days, to me atleast it seems like the HVAC does a poor job of figuring out what the actual cab temp is, because it feels hot as hell in the car and the HVAC keeps pumping hot air into car. Which is why I complain that there isn't enough manual control of the HVAC, to allow me to turn it to just a little warm rather than just Auto 65 which feels more like 80. Like I said, I just live with. It's the sort of stuff you have to put up with these cars. It's my 4th one, HVAC has sucked on all of them lol
Right: auto 65- will make the inside of the car 65. fan speed one, 65 - the heat is STILL mixed to bring the air up to 65. On a red/blue, you can vary the heat mixture with outside air. There is nothing between "off" and "65" on this system. It's true.
Hence, if one were to modify the cabin temp sensor, so that that car already thinks the cabin is 80 degrees, it would mix the ratio differently, giving me more "blue" than "red." Edit: with possible unforeseen negative consequences
It isn't like this is really a "major" problem. I just put it on Auto until I am comfortable and then click it up 1 notch to keep air moving. I will admit that when I am rocking A/C on the "hot hot hot keep the window up sitting in traffic" days I will use Auto @ 65*.
WHAT! That's not what you said in 2010! LOL Mine does the same thing. I thought I read something somewhere about a faulty temperature sensor that causes the "auto" setting to misbehave, but I'm not sure where I saw it, or if it even pertains to the 09 models. 09 FXT and no issues with mine. Actually, on mine, the click below 65 is just open vent. So it pulls in outside air bypassing the heating/cooling. But like others, I just set mine 70-75ish and manually run the fan since I don't like the thing just screaming trying to get the cabin up to temp. Also, if you set to 65 and have auto/auto on, it should turn on your AC to cool the cabin down to the desired temp. I have seen where if I am on auto/auto, that if I turn the temp down, the AC will kick on to cool the cabin down. Russ
Interesting. On both of our 08's if you go under 65 you can hear the fan click on and it starts to push cold air... So it's either in winter getting cold air blowing on you, or Hot as hell even on 65. lol Must be an 08 issue?
True. I was trying to do the same thing you are trying to do, but now I just hit the auto and I've found a good temp that makes me happy. The only problem I have now is that once I get comfortable the GF is always freezing cold.
