First off the car is a 2010 WRX with turbo back exhaust (invidia catted DP, SPT exhaust), forge bypass valve and NF Performance tune, 38k miles. Late last year I had the throw out bearing replaced at Morries Minnetonka under warranty. The clutch would squeak pretty loud when pressing and release the clutch pedal. They had determined it was the throw out bearing and had it replaced. Everything has been great since thing, in fact the clutch felt a lot better after the repair. The clutch lost some of its heaviness and was far easier to push to the floor. Two weeks ago I come back from a trip to Chicago and noticed the squeaking noise coming back to the clutch. Very minor at first and went away once the car was warm. Well this morning I start the car up after sitting all weekend and the clutch is squeaking bad again but this time there is a bit of a shudder when pushing the pedal to the floor. When going through the gears I notice a slight ratcheting sound when letting up on the clutch. The clutch feels like its engaging properly and I don't notice any slippage. The sound was mostly gone when I get to work, but there is still a faint squeak from the pedal. I already have an appointment to bring the car into Morries for service tomorrow. My concern is that I am off the factory warranty now and am onto my extended warranty. And that with the extended warranty I may not get the service completely covered. If it ends up not being the throw out bearing or that I would need to replace the clutch out of my pocket, what is a good clutch to use for my current setup? I have looked around at a few options at IIR but this is a bit out of my limited car knowledge. I don't plan on going much beyond a typical stage 2 setup for the life of the car. So any recommendations for clutch brand, type, etc, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. TLDR: clutch recommendation for 2010 wrx, typical stage 2 setup
my first thought is what are you doing to your clutch that it could be burned out at >40k? But I would think it would be a grand ish for the clutch and the install maybe a little more with the flywheel resurface.
Yeah I don't think its the clutch as its doing the same thing it did last time when they replaced the throw out bearing. Just putting this out here in the event I need a new clutch as to what brand to get. Typical response I know, but I am not doing anything hard to the clutch. Never done any hard launches, don't ride it, etc.
I've been running Exedy OEM replacements on my stage 2 setup and have never had an issue with them in the 10 years that i've owned the car. They are what Morries carries as far as i know.
Thanks for the suggestions! I did spend some time reading over all the Unabomber faqs over at NASIOC. Which was quite helpful in understanding all the different types of clutches that are available and their different torque capacity.
