Does your car need a new clutch?

Did I miss the build price? How much did this cost you? Who put in the gears?

This gearset is $4500 new from Andrewtech. NF installed the gears into the case. I swapped the tranny in and out with some help from NF and others.

    Thanks Ben.

I checked their site and it seems like they only have gears for the WRX and STI trans.

I like the gear ratio of the 5 speed but not much out there for my car.

I believe Andrewtech's website only refers to the PPG gears. I have PAR gears. Andrewtech sells them, but you'll have to call about them. Here is a link to the manufacturer's website:

    http://www.par-engineering.com/sect...aspx?typeId=gearsets&manId=subaru&sectionId=2

I believe the Outback uses the TY75 transmission, just like the WRX (it's a 5 speed, right?). If so, you should be able to use the PPG or PAR WRX gearset.

    Thanks guys.

Yeah the Outback is a 5speed. I'm leaning towards the same setup as yours. If you don't mind, can I have a ride sometime?

I'm trying to learn from others so I don't run into the same problems. Debating between STI 6 or a built tranny like yours.

How many miles have you put on this gear setup? Your type of driving?

About 4k of daily driven miles so far. Lots of cruising, but also plenty of WOT and probably dozens or maybe hundreds of FFS's so far. Everything seems to be holding up OK, but the same could be said about my stock tranny until the instant that the gear shredded off. I can probably give you a ride at a meet sometime.

Thanks. Do you know where to find any more reviews on PAR sets. I've never really heard of them before.

Send Andrewtech an e-mail. They recommended them over PPG's. The PAR gears are wider, and therefore should be stronger. There are very few people that have the gears though, so it's hard to find any real world feedback.

Hope the gears hold up, good luck, and keep us posted if they don't!

They are both gear manufacturers from Australia.

PPG stands for Pfitznew Performance Gearbox.

    http://www.ppgearbox.com.au/

PAR Engineering stands for Precision Automation Robotics.

    http://www.par-engineering.com/

I had the PAR 5MT 650hp Synchromesh gearset with straight cut 1st and 2nd gear. I don't think I ever updated this thread with the straight cut 2nd gear upgrade. I'll post those pictures after this post.

This gearbox is now in another local 2011 WRX. I have switched to a 2011 STI 6MT with the Spec B long gear upgrade and DCCD Pro center diff controller.

Here are the posts on the straight cut 2nd gear and firmer mounts.

The car is amazing Ben. Last time I saw something accelerate like that it was getting launched off the front of an aircraft carrier.

Haha, I have never seen that, but it's probably a lot more impressive (and faster) than my car!

These videos are a bit old. The new setup is about 100WHP more than those videos. I'll post one of my recent videos in my other thread.

I haven't seen it in person, however I watched Top Gun in 3D Imax 3 times in a week so I think I can safely call myself an expert ;)
