Consider Injector Dynamics instead, they provide much better injector parameters which will help your tuner out, especially since your car isn't a setup they'll have a ton of base maps/experience with.

That was the other company. I couldn't remember who they were. They have some 880cc that I wanted to get.

Need...no. but they are a good idea for since they will be digging in the engine anyways. Plus it helps with the tune and such. So may as well do most if it in one go. Technically the BRZ has 8 injectors -.-

I just looked, besides FB, the closest other master tuner is in IA. JB Auto sports.

I went from ecuteks site, they have a tuner there as well, not master certified but yea. Just a pain that there is no one that wants to deal with this platform in MN. It's frustrating.

What's frustrating is watching you hem and haw and consider bringing your car somewhere that has blown up that many cars

I know their reputation. I don't like it. But I don't really much want to haul a car across two states for the tune. If I need to I will. But since no one here wants to tune the platform then left with either FB or out of state. We had one member here that had is turbocharger installed and tuned there and had no issues. I am keeping them in mind but not pulling the trigger yet.

I guess ill put it this way. A uhaul and trailer trip to Chicago and back is cheaper then a motor rebuild.

I agree. Believe me. I'm weighing options. Trying to figure out how much to set aside and what my game plan will be. Since it will essentially be deadlined and need to be trailered.

I may be able to get you a car trailer on the cheap Neily poo. My inlaws have one.

My old man does too, but I'm pretty sure the danger ranger can't pull it and the car, so I'll have to borrow my dads aviator and car trailer...Bleh

Well, got a tuner worked out. I won't even have to trailer the car to Calgary or Des Moines. The guys at FT86 Speed Factory in IA will be able to etune it.

    Phew...

Just put the order in for the last of my parts. Now all that's left is:
    ECM of some kind
    FT86s Ecutek system
    Install
    tune

    Soooooon......

What do you mean ECM of some kind? That's not required when using The Ekutek programmer AFAIK, it flashes the stock ECU I believe?? Also, ask Speed Factory if they'll be locking the ROM that they make for you, if so that will prevent you from having any other tuner tweak the map later on to improve things or when you make engine upgrades - you'd have to keep going back to them and pay for each additional e-tune. Just an FYI

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

In regards to the ECM, HKS recommends it to get the most out of the kit. Appearantly it should allow to manage and control the injectors and have finer control over the mix.

I find that hard to belive as the stock ecu is very flexible. I can guarantee you the map will be locked as well so if anyone in the future is to tune your car they will have to start from scratch.

Also be aware that with a etune you will never get 100% out of the setup as if he is a good tuner will have at least a 25% safety factor in there. Also I highly recommend getting the e85 modual from delicious to help protect the car from bad gas and give you more flexibility and not have to worry about hunting e85

Good points. I was thinking ecm mostly because HKS themselves recommended it. Also depending on how much I sweet talk the etuner, I can drive to des Moines in a couple hours and have it done. They just prefer etune.

Ehhh, depends on the etuner. Some of the tuners I'm talking to will do dozens of revisions based on datalogs as well as ask for datalogs of specific parameters under certain conditions.

I'm glad you found someone willing to etune it finally. There really isn't a big market for it. So outside of finding someone close by, someone willing to help you out, and doing it yourself, youre kinda fuxed. Flashback to 15 years ago.

I did all etuning on my wrx so as long as you understand what the tuner is doing and why he is doing it will make the process much more enjoyable for the both of you.

That doesn't make sense to me, the HKS is a piggyback on top of the signals that the OEM ECU takes in/out vs reflashing the OEM where Ekutek etc can make full modifications to how the ECU functions.

And my face exploded @EricS they recommend it. I havnt bought it yet because I'm going to continue talking to the tuner to see what they think. Since they live and breathe the car.

@idget I agree. I'm happy it's simple. Because I'm simple. But I can drag it to the dyno if I want. It's up to their tuner.

No need for an extra ECU, just HKS trying to sell you parts.

Talk to the tuner tuning your car, explain your setup, and follow their recommendations. The other option is to use Open Flash Tablet and then have someone tune it via RomRaider.

The beauty of the Ecutek is the system can load multiple maps into the ecu, allowing for on the fly map and other tuning parameters using just buttons and turn stalks from the steering wheel.
If you are going with an etune, check out Moto-East. They tuned my buddies BRZ with an Ecutek.

EMS is off the table. Hooray! Tuner chuckled and said it wasn't needed. So as soon as this batch of goodies comes in she should be ready for surgery.
