This Saturday is my hometown's annual car/motorcycle/aircraft show at the municipal airport in Osceola, WI. I've been going as a spectator since I was a kid and showing my own cars for the last decade and it's always a great time. I'm pretty certain the cost of entering a vehicle in the show is $10 and there's a 1/4 mile strip set up on the runway that you can pay $35 to compete on as well, spectator entry and parking is free. There are usually several hundred cars spanning all genres (although mostly classics), an aerial acrobatic show, helicopter rides, and of course food and beer, plus a few other fun attractions. I'll be there bright and early with my bugeye (Biscayne will have to wait until next year unfortunately) so if anyone is coming out let me know so we can bro down over some sweet rides and cold beer. There's also a small community fair going at the same time and other cool stuff to check out around town if you get bored with the show. Dang this looks fun. I'd be down if I was around. I'm not sure if I knew about this one. Might have to put this on the list of events to go to. I'd also like to get to Oshkosh sometime for the air show, just never made a point of it yet.
I used to go to this when it was hosted by Motorbooks International. Do they still have a presence there with discounted publications?
I think they have a whole hangar set up there if I remember correctly. Motorbooks moved to Minneapolis a few years back, their old building is now used by a software company and a daycare place that my son goes to.
Damn. I work until 1:00 on Saturday. Is this always the second Saturday in September? I want to put it on my calendar for next year.
Pretty sure it is. Wish I'd have thought to bring it up earlier but I was preoccupied with the LaX cruise stuff. Would be cool to get even a small group of Subies there representing us. Maybe next year?
You're right, I did. I missed last year's though because I was in Houston all of September helping out with all the claims we got from hurricane Harvey.
It's definitely the second Saturday of September every year. The car club I'm in does a show the same weekend so I've never been able to attend the Osceola one, which is annoying. There's also a sprint car special at Cedar Lake the same night every year that we've missed every time as well. Seriously considering opting out of the car club for a few years to be able to take in a few different things instead. There's also a street racing event in Duluth every year on this Saturday, too. Can't remember what it's called but they actually close down the street and do legal drag racing. Apparently it's gotten pretty popular over the last couple years.
Kia of Duluth drag races and car show. I was going to go if we weren't in Pennsylvania. Looks pretty neat
Never got around to posting an update after the show but it was a pretty good turnout. I unfortunately couldn't find any other Subies but there were plenty of cars to see. I didn't take a lot of photos but got a few of my favorites and some just to show the variety there.
Almost time for this year's event! Date is Sept 7th this year, details are largely the same. Only new addition I noticed last year that I hadn't mentioned was some kids' activities that helped keep my son entertained. Would love to see some fellow members there this year so let me know if anyone is interested!
Also, as @Krazylegz1485 had previously pointed out there is a sprint car race that evening at the nearby Cedar Lake Speedway https://www.cedarlakespeedway.com/event/show/439361317
I may make it this year. This is the first day after my last day at work...yes, I'm retiring after graduating from pharmacy school 39 years ago. I'm hoping for moderate weather as there is nothing that will get me to stand around in the 90 degree sun on tarmac with no shade, not even nude supermodels with free admission, free beer and free pizza.
I'll post here if I am. I suspect I won't make the call until the day before as I am a weather pussy.
I'm trying to convince my wife that it would be a good date weekend. She's interested but we were also trying to plan a camping weekend up the North shore in September so we'll see which one wins.
This looks like fun. They have some questionable results from last years radar run. Dodge Demon running a 14.06 @ 122? Should be hitting at least 11s not even trying. Maybe it blew up?
My guess is that not everyone really wants to launch aggressively or push their car too hard (nearly everyone drives their cars to and from the show so there's no trailer to load it onto if something breaks), but I agree that a Demon should've done better than that even going easy on it. And yeah they'll let anyone run anything. RVs, ATVs, bikes, whatever. Haven't done it myself yet but it's tempting.
They could always camp at Interstate Park on the St Croix and do both. Otherwise I've got a little campsite in the woods behind my house but there's no river or bluffs to liven up the scenery. Just a rusted out pre-war truck cab.
2 weeks left until this year's show! Definitely a good time and lots to great stuff to see for anyone who's interested.
I'm undecided at the moment. Sounds like my kind of day through, 65 and cloudy (the forecast the last time I looked). The wife wants to go and take the dog along even though she (the dog) is not allowed at the car show. And I have a cold and feel like poopy. I kind of lost my enthusiasm since Motorbooks International quit having a presence there (what has that been, 15 years or so?). I loved looking at the books more than the cars.
We probably won't be attending. I think both my wife and I are feeling a need to stick around home and get some stuff done this weekend.
I want to go, and planning on it, but it will be a last minute decision based on weather. My fun car is not rain worthy. So far the forecast is looking good.
Very cool! I'll keep an eye out for you. I should be there pretty early with my bugeye, looks like I'll have my son and my niece with me too.
What a great show today! Great variety of rides. A lot of everything. Classic, late model, cars, trucks, bikes, everything. The airplane stunt show was amazing. And the taco stand killed it. Those were so good!
Glad you were able to make it and had a good time. It was nice to see your BMW there too, definitely a very cool car.
