I'm not sure why but I am really excited about this! Last year I was in Duluth for a weekend out of town when I saw at least 20 Subies coming down one of the hills as I was going up it. I couldn't keep my eyes on the road, it was an amazing site to see.

Last I heard....he will be taking the other couch at my place.

    my address is: 107 E 8th St.

getting to my place: follow I35 N into town.
exit at and follow Mesaba Ave.
follow it up the hill to 7th st (stoplight) and turn right.
follow seventh to 1st ave E (second stop sign.....probably a silver '94 Tleg parked there....usually is ), turn left,
park on either side (facing either direction, we don't care about that here) of 1st ave between 8th and 9th st. my house is the 3rd one in from the alley, you'll see my subarus and 4Runner parked in the alley.

95lwrx.....I don't know about over there. but it's been raining here for about 4 days straight. don't worry, it'll still be wet next weekend. I hope it isn't raining while you guys are here. that would suck monkey nuts!

    also.....my oil pan leaks too!

I'm attaching (or trying to....) a map of the route I've been planning. starting from my place, up Central Entrance (194) for lunch (at the Red Star on the map), then on to Sam's Club (Blue X), then some not-so-interesting roads to a BP Station (green X) that's usually a few cents cheaper per gallon than other places in town, then to a sweet section of Skyline Drive (just look at the twisties). the overlook where we've always taken pictures is highlighted in red.....we'll stop there. then the freeway to downtown/canal park/park point.

from there you guys can go check in, then back into Duluth for dinner at Grizzly's (purple X)

the only thing that concerns me about this trip is fueling. my tune is designed around Shell v-powa. with that said, anyone else in the same boat?

I was thinking of filling up with race gas just to be safe...considering Duluth/Superior doesn't look to have Shell or any other good fuel options. BP maybe, but I haven't tried anything besides Shell since the tune.

the race gas is a spendy alternative though....

that way I can fill up when my tank reaches 1/2 or so (in duluth) and still come out okay...with the race gas hopefully offsetting the crap I might find up there.

am i talking smack? sound like a good or bad idea? am I paranoid?

Running the same gas is a good idea. I think race gas would be a waste.

However, from personal experience, I do think BP and Shell 92 gas are very close. And, Duluth isn't that far, I wouldn't be to worried about finding the right type of station.

I'm in the same boat, I'm tuned on Shell 92, but BP92 works just fine. But last time I was there, I had to put a bunch of those stupid octane booster things in the tank. I have two 10 gallon gas cans we can fill up with race gas if you want. That way you aren't just wasting it driving up there. I know I'll go through nearly a tank of gas on the way to Duluth. So, having a 10 gallon can of 110 to mix 5 gallons with some 91 would be ideal. Let me know, I can loan you a can if you want. I'd even give you some cash to fill up the second one for me before the trip.

FWIW, I trucked up to the north shore in February, and didn't have any trouble finding a BP station.

BTW: Justin, you can go ahead and add me + 1 for a king on the front page. Late plan changes ftw.

It isn't finding the BP that is the problem, it's finding the 92octane. We stopped at a BP station, but all they had was 91.

Hrm. I guess that doesn't surprise me.

Slightly OT, but my local BP pumps changed from 92 to 91 then back to 92 earlier this summer, all without explanation. Incidentally, my tune didn't show any change during those couple months (although it wasn't "on the edge").

I have a hard time strictly trusting the pump numbers after that..

The reason the pumps changed from 92 to 91 is because of some refinery issue. I guess the gas they were delivering was more like 91.8octane. So they legally couldn't mark it as 92, as teh number on the pump is the minimum octane rating. I ran the same stuff, I also had no real issues with it. I knocked twice. And both times was uphill at 45-50mph in 4th gear with little to no boost and before the engine had fully warmed up, so it was loaded up pretty good.

BP marked it 91 so that you WOULD trust them down the road. Yeah, they were delivering 91.8octane, but they marked it 91 since it didn't meet the 92 octane requirements. But they still gave you what was pretty damn close to 92.

the BP station that chux mentioned is a completely different one then the one we went to last year. as such it is possible they have better gas.

Since the BP stations in Duluth are likely supplied by the same supplier, I doubt seriously they will just magicly have 92 when the others don't. Better safe than sorry. Maybe Chux can go scout out some BP92 stations. That isn't to say I'm not going to dump 5 gallons of race gas in the tank so I can wail on my car a little harder than usual.

I haven't seen anything over 91 in duluth in a couple years. but I'll check that station at skyline and I35 on my way back into town tomorrow....but Deride said he knows somewhere where there's race gas. I suspect it's over in the Air Park near Archer Racing and the like.....kinda out of our way, but we could make it happen.
