Yeah, almost. We talked to him a little while ago about it and it was something he was interested in. His account is a moderator account, but he's been hanging out and learning how things work before we turn him loose and announce it. As to why we chose him, he's been active in the club for a long time, he's got a great attitude and personality, he has a lot of knownledge about subarus in general and he has an interest in continuing to grow and improve the club.
I'll say this again. Instead of fighting and complaining about money and who is in charge. To become more of a group maybe we should try a few smaller scale events sorta meet and greet style where new people can come mingle with some of the kids with the big post counts. I know firestone is good for this but many of us have other things going on fri/sat evenings and maybe if everyone is at a fresh location we can work on getting around to meet more people rather than hunkering down on the same curb we have been sitting on for the last few years. as much fun as most of us have in winter I think it still puts us all into a funk. Cheer up everybody.
yeah i know that there are some older dudes here russ(wagner for one and he sure seems to enjoy the occasional banter, sometimes even joins in), but we are never going to make everyone happy...our goal should be to make the majority of the group happy(which the average person happens to be 18-30). and my advice for you on the hoodies...dont open it up to try and let the members decide what the design is or else it will never get done. i'm all about letting the group decide on things as a whole, but for things like tshirt designs it just doesnt work. you need a person or two just to step up, make the design and hope that the couple of people that are working on the shirt know what a good moderate style is so everyone at least kinda likes it(ie phil is good at this).
i agree with you to badbenny. i always thought it would be nice to have at least one other annual event so every 4 months there is an event: summer - lax cruise fall - duluth trip winter - ice races spring - ?? and if we wanted to do the occasional smaller event we could always do that when we get some funds in the mnsubaru bank account to do it(whenever that happens)
ok, here is my problem with all of this........who the hell cares what jobs we have..you say doctors and lawyers like they are above everybody else...I am a VERY respectful person and I am always nice to my elders but I don't give a **** if you are 50+, a doctor, a lawyer, a rocket scientist...we are here for cars...Subarus....so all that hoopla goes out the window...we are all equal...so if i talk about Britney spears taking a **** on a rabbits chest and some doctor gets offended he can go **** himself because this site is not about your STATUS...and the chances are someone else will think its funny...so equality should rain...UNLESS...an official who has had a hand in the development of this site feels uncomfortable with it...we need the structure but we DON'T need nannys....and if people don't like us as a group cause we are rowdy or too crazy or drive like lunatics then **** that..our goal as a group is not to appease everyone else(especially Audi club) but to have fun as a group...why was this put together in the first place...?????? This is a Subaru COMMUNITY and although many forget it we are not ****ing Nazis, we have a lot of walks of life and occupations and cars and everything and the mix is GOOD!
So no that you are off of your high horse, did you read the rest of the statement?? I did not say they were better than anyone else. What I was saying is that there are other people on the site. Not everyone flips burgers at the golden arches. Not everyone here gets is 25 and has their parents buy them everything. We are a very diverse group, and to keep everyone somewhat happy we have to sometimes keep our mouth shut. There are other people that use the site, and your comment is the EXACT reason why some of them don't post much. Russ
I think even among the active members we are a very diverse group. Whatever we end up deciding for what we want the site to be, it's going to be a compromise. We just need to find out where that compromise is going to be and try to find a way to define it so that people understand what's ok and what's not. That's a fairly difficult thing to do. Personally, I see this site as serving two purposes right now. One, it's a resource for local Subaru owners and enthusiats, technical information, parts, labor, etc. Two, it's a social site for group(s) of people with some common interests. I don't want to see either half die, I think it's great that people are active and talking to each other, etc. But we need to find some way to balance things. Anyway, Justin, Russ, I can tell the frustration level is very high because I know you've both discusses this at great length in the past. I don't really see either of you changing the other's mind and I don't want the entire thread to get sidetracked on that. I think I read a few pages back that someone said they thought they were too new here to give much input, well, I don't think that's true. Anyone is welcome to give input on what they want this site to become. If you don't want to post in this thread, you can PM me or any of the other moderators with your input.
Agreed... usual problem persists though... people say me me me i am there... 10% turn up... if there is cost involved someone usually eats it... i held 2 events maybe 3 at my shop when I had it, first one everyone called HUGE success for mnsubaru cause about 20-25 cars showed.. SAD... if that was an indication of success.... granted that was 3 yrs ago and we have grown.. for the better or worse?? not sure on that one personally... After taking a hiatis (sp?) and not being on so much, I have rudely awoken to some things, and I was a part of those too... gladly i am not as much now... another 'CLUB' style event for other people was a bowling league... about 6 of us joined... sure people have other commitments, this was abig one, but my issue is mostly about when an event is held south of the cities all the pissy girly men complain about the drive, and want everything MORE CENTRAL.. ie St Paul... well part of a bigger club with various events is travelling to have fun... this thread is a good step forward... just if everyone who posts for the sake of posting or arguing can just go back to off topic, there is abotu 10 worthless threads there that you can puke your useless crap in... end
As much fun as I had on that trip I have to say that if it's our goal to display a positive public image there's no way that should be officially affiliated with MNSubaru. Too much PUBLIC display of drunken mayhem.
oh please, what we as a group do at a hotel shouldnt reflect on us as a car club, we didnt drink and drive, or hurt anyone. if everyone thinks we are a joke WHO FREAKIN CARES HONESTLY
couldnt have said it better myself, my god some of the people in this club think we are the worst group of adults/young adults in the world, or any other car club for that matter.
sometimes if the shoe fits... but hey... nothing wring with drunkeness if that's you goal and aim in life... but whether you care or not it reflects on teh club as a whole in some way or fashion... it wont ruin the club, but wont necessarily help either...
joel..not very frustrated, just saw this thread and thought it might actually lead somewhere for once. it takes alot to get me frustrated these days. just care about things... i think its absolutely ridiculous that some of you think the 20somethings around here that like to go out and party occasionally are all a bunch of alcoholics. i dont know, but last time i checked thats about the age group when most people had their party days. GOD FORBID
Yea, everyone wants quite cabins to sleep in, but they all sure as **** show up to the party cabin to party and get drunk, and be loud and be messy and not have to sleep in that cabin or come back the next morning to clean it up...
maybe its the season but EVERYONE seems really really really really whiney about everything. its fine if you think i am a drunk, I drink maybe every other weekend, but even with all that drinking still manage to hold down a job, own a home, own countless toys, and breed dogs. indeed I am a terrible excuse for a human.
who said it was any ones goal, young people drink, they will always drink, thats a part of being young. I sometime think that some of you guys forgot what it was like when you were 19-25....you DRINK (most) and party. Get it out of your system and go on with your life.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, it was fun and should never stop. However, we had a few incidences that could've put mnsubaru in the spot light. you know what i mean
Ok, that's good. I hope this thread does go somewhere, or at least some of the ideas from it. The hope was to get people talking about stuff. I don't have a solution for this drinking vs non-drinking (for lack of a much better description) argument. I feel like I'm stuck somewhere in the middle on that. It's frustrating to read the arguments because I think both sides are misunderstanding each other.
Reading the last couple pages of this, has pretty much told me that the "club" is wanting to go somewhere...but nothing is going to be done about it. Lot's is being suggested, but no one is stepping up. If the club is ever to go ANYWHERE, suggestions need to turn into actions. If the club is going to get a President, V.P., and such, I think there should be a poll where the majority decides on it. If MOST people want elections, then they happen. If not, then were pretty much stuck the way we are, unless Russ or some other member wants to take over. And who knows, maybe no-one wants to take responsibility for the club and the future of it. Either way, this thread shouldn't have useless bickering between members. It was more for ideas on where we should be/where we're going, and how to get there. STOP BICKERING!
agreed on the misunderstanding. Partying, drinking, etc...go for it. On that particular trip I had a ton of fun. That's not was I was attempting to say. I said if we want to display a positive public image we probably shouldn't have it offically affilated with mnsubaru....meaning causing chaos throughout the twin ports while everyone sporting mnsubaru shirts, etc... Here's an idea...let's change it to an official Grimmspeed event..there we go:biggthumpup:
trust me man..all of its already on my shoulders. its my personal name that everything is saved under at the duluth trip resort. last years incidents(fobia) can absolutely not happen again. barker island resort is a great place to stay..i just hope we can go back there because if we ever get around to getting those funds i'll love to have a big cook out out on the island by the marina.
The more post I read the more obvious this thread is going down hill. OT OT OT Seems like the ones that bicker the most and the ones that post the most horse BS gets most attention. Those of us who want to post useful info, events tech, how to and provoking good discussions on topics, just get side lined. I know there are more interest in the BS than the userful stuff, and thats exactly my point. But on the side note we come together when someone ask for help. And even when someone stepped up and volunteer, no one even acknowledges it. So the point is you guys are not ready, if you were you would stop talking about the BS past and start focusing your attention on whats infront of you we may get somewhere. Move forward or shut up and stay as a forum. Life is too short to be sitting around waiting for something to happend here. I will still have fun with or without you guys, my life does not evolve around this forum, but it sure would be fun to spend more time with other fellow Subarus.
I agree wholeheartedly with mushashi... first of all in response to se7enrexs comments the " we are a club about subarus and having fun. if we want to screw around we shouldnt have to censor ourselves" yes, i can see where that is coming from, but in a way its kind of like being at a job because you are representing something other than yourself, being MNSubaru. this is relating specifially to events or trips that is strictly an "MNSubaru event". as far as so much off topic posting and the people with high post counts and the "central group of regular posters" that some may or may not think ignore the less active members; isnt that exactly what t3hw00t was created for? im not saying this should be a strict and humorless environment, but i think as a car club we should be somewhat presentable and whatnot.
^^these last 2 posts pretty well sum up my thoughts the club will not be able to grow if nobody cares about the image. if we come across as a bunch of careless drunkards, we won't be able to host major events at BIR etc. our actions now will effect the future of the club. if you don't want to see the club grow and be able to host major events (like the BMW and Audi clubs are doing), keep it up, but don't even think about saying a word about what you'd like the club to become. also, just because the majority of the club is 18-30, doesn't mean we have to cater to that age group. we can tone it down a bit so EVERYONE can be happy. take some of the more 'extreme' off topic stuff to t3hw00t, that's the whole point of that site. and we can keep this site more aimed towards all subaru owners, regardless of background.
Justin, you should know that I am not going to name names. If they want to post, they will post. It is not my responsibility to push these people into the spotlight if they do not want to be there. I said it that way to tell everyone that there are more people that come here and read. We do have people from SOA that read this site. We have people from Rally America that read this site. We have people from the State Highway patrol that read this site. its not just a bunch of 20 something's. I am also not saying that we can't have fun, but while we are having fun, we also have a outside image that is being created by having this fun. People are so worried about themselves and thier fun, they are not thinking about the other people on the site. Remember, 3000 DIFFERENT ip's log into this site every month. Russ
ok, so maybe i was a bit cavalier in my actions, so its a moderation thing like everything in life....still have fun but uphold a strong image and I do agree with that...what my point was earlier is that this is a place for fun and i don't want people to only associate me with this site, you know? like I have a life outside MNsubaru and its NOT a job in that its NOT my only form of social activity! Russ makes a good point though on the fact that we can't ignore the fact that we do have all walks of life reading this (especially POLICE) so if anything we need to be smart on that front...I rock the MNsubaru stickers and have my SN in big ass white letters across my upper spoiler cause I'm proud to be in this group...we are all crazy and loud, sometimes disruptive and crude but come on everyone has those people....what we have though that no one else does is a family feeling. We may be harsh at times but when people ask what MNsubaru is like i say its like a family. There is always fights and drama and name calling and bitching, but at the end of the day we have one of the best communities in the midwest if the the U.S. I would love to see some better organization and I would be willing to pay for it, I just don't want to be locked into this "i only live in mnsubaru world." And i would think no one else does either...so my POINT is that when we physically represent our club at meets, gatherings, races whatever we need to stand united and proud....but online should be a basic crap shoot for what happens........ my suggestion is take everything in off-topic and stuff that is not directly related to subarus and don't let it hit the home page in that thing on the left...basically don't advertise the off-topic---make it so the only way to see that stuff is if you find your way to the off-topic forum... as far as keeping the trash off the rest of the site......start cutting people's threads apart if it ventures off the beaten path...or let the one who started the thread reign over it... anyways thats my 2cents and I do love this site to death, i'm on it probably 3 hours a day.....
Another thing we could do is make it so OT only shows up when you actually log in. We could even go so far as to limit its access by post count so that only people with at least X amount of posts can see it (but that's whatever to me). If we, at the very least, made it so people had to register before reading OT, then "outsiders" wouldn't feel so imitated by the fraternal nature of OT-> like people who are friends in real life, but like to make fun of each other online. People who aren't familiar with our personalities might click on a thread where someone is getting cut down and think we're all a bunch of mean inconsiderate jerks. However, that might just be side stepping the fact that some people take things too far at times and I understand if people want that stuff to tone down. It's just a thought though.
And that is fine, but at the same point in time, when normal threads start to go off topic, everyone can't be butthurt about the fact that a mod did his/her job and either cleaned up the thread or moved it. Russ
this is what irritates me the most. being off topic in OT is one thing, but I've been reading threads by holding the down arrow these days. just skimming over the pages and pages of unrelated crap. and I just know that if you mods were to go and delete the 25 posts that have absolutely nothing to do with the thread, there's be a whole new thread complaining about it somewhere else. just like speedemon did.....and we all know that there are more than a few others who would've done the same thing. hiding OT unless logged in is pretty common on other forums.....wouldn't be a bad idea to do here either.
THIS ^ ^ ^ ^ I do know that probably half a year ago now the mods did try to enforce what was going on and try to clean up the place a bit and that caused alot of people to get angry even though it was just a clarification of the rules.
yah but my thread was in the off topic section because it was an off topic post. It still got deleted...
anyway, to really get back on topic, by now most people have seen this thread. so where do we think in general our main focus is to go forward with this club? we all know we like events, that was pretty solitified. but what steps will really better us as a club? a big debate is paying or not paying as far as membership goes. or do we just want the "pay per event" system? or is the money debate not the biggest issue?
Alright, correct me if i am wrong, but i believe i have been suggestion another sub forum like...quite a bit over the past year+? i know i mentioned it numerous times at firestone, tonka, to mods in person, posted it here... now its all the sudden like... hey!? as far as the image is concerned, i think it comes with the territory, we are "ricers" to most anyways so we are already turned into an outcast so i think a level of respect and dignity is needed to keep us looking decent. i know for a fact i agree with se7enrex that i consider it like a family, and every chance i get i have referenced people here and had them join up. the site is wonderful, dont get me wrong, but i see the same **** happening as it always seems to. a few things happen that someone doesnt agree with, posts are made, all hell breaks loose. I think we should be considering the 18-30 year olds or whatever the "active" members in the group are, browsers and users are one thing... but where do we draw the line? if you arent coming to gatherings or events...where do you REALLY fall in with the group?
