I have a couple points to make.

    1st point:
A banner would be great for our club activities.

Get the word out there that we exist. Maybe make the club grow because of it. But we would have to be very careful at what events we would like to put that banner up at. We cannot associate the club with illegal activities or other things that could give us a bad public image!

    2nd point:
Being as new as i am to this club i can see some of the shortfalls in events. Most people will not go to an event like that without knowing at least someone there. So even tho it is winter having more of the smaller meets like chipotle and firestone are great avenues to get more dedicated club members!

If the club wants to want to rent the resort and deal with all the bs of renting spots and trying to keep it more organized thats fine with me. That way they can put their banner up and not worry. They can decide what happens on the lake with people driving after the race is over.

The way things are going and all the complaining makes me think I wont be having another one next year. I have to listen to my parents complaing about people paying among other things. And people keep talking about how much I make off the race, I dont own the resort. As soon as people pay me the $ goes straight to my parents, so if I trade a room for something I have to go and pay my parents for the spot. The only $ we get is when the wife cleans the cabins, I think we get like $150 to clean all 5.

I agree. the one issue i for see is having individual s/ns being printed off. I think that this cheap rate per card reflects that they are all the same design, by adding a variable that changes on every card it could increase the cost a decent amount.

perhaps poeple should be required to post up in the mntka and bp thread what they are looking for and when they will be in. this would give you guys a heads up on parts and times to expect people. It would still keep it free but would allow some sort of vreification. the only down side being that if someone doesnt have time to psot before coming in or doesnt hear about the change they would be SOL temporarily.

Rich I wasnt trying to say you were geting rich of teh events you host... just meant that if there is no course then no-one would go, hence that plowing would be included in the cost of the event... like it is... I owned a business and know that there is a lot more too it then the $40 / night.... the things others dont see...

Alright I like what I'm reading, the most recent posts have been very constructive. So lets start figuring out our first steps. Lets take advantage of the winter months and start planning for the summer. I always do my prepping over the winter and by spring I'm already tuning and setting up and by early summer when the first events come around I'm hitting the events.

I'd like to suggest a simple BBQ season opener w/everyone bringing something to share, we can make a list of who is bringing what and where and we can all hangout and see what everyone looks like over the winter-scrubb's. LOL Maybe play some football, talk cars, fly some kites. Hopefully this will help motivate us to want more events as a group. I personally dont get out much so if anyone has a great place to suggest lets hear it.

Hey I'll be the Iron chef at the grill, thats no problem. :yumyum: Besides it not like we are having a full course meal, its more like finger food, hot dogs, burgers, chips and such. I'm sure my better half won't mind spending the day with me while enjoying the spring weather.

A spring BBQ would be a great way to start things off. The weather today was amazing and it has me all pumped for spring, and being outside. We should perhaps look into a quasi local park and divide up stuff to bring. burger/brats/chips/pop/ice cream/ect.... keep it close to try and get a larger turn out (see if we can top the LAX trip).

yeah i think everyone is getting sick of being stuck in the house...a spring bbq would be a great way to kick off the warm weather and get us out of our houses.

don't have to cook to have a pot luck. we're all guys, so we don't need anything fancy. potato salad, chips, dip, brats, burgers, buns, pop, cookies, donuts.....would be sweet and all things that anyone can buy at their local grocer. and those of us with women who like to help can bring something a little more fancy. I know Sarah and I would be up for baking a few pies for the group (and yes, I do help with the pie baking).....and I think virtually anyone here could make a bowl of Jell-o.

I never thought I'd find this thread as quite as it has gotten, it must be alien to suddenly have the thread making progress. So where is everybody......Okay, how about a park on the river? I've been to a few but I can't remember any names, which might be a good reason to take a Sunday drive.

I think it just got to the point where a lot of the points have been made. But, we're going to try our best to make some progress on some of the ideas that came up in here.

Anyway, as far as a spring event, that'd be a great idea. I would suggest setting a date and make it happen, things tend not to get done unless someone stands up and takes charge. Are you willing to lead the mnsubaru spring thaw bbq?

Gladly, I'm going to do some more researching to find out some of my favorite parks and everyone can suggest their's. I am thinking sometime middle or late April hoping we'll get a dry weekend to play.

I had some time to drive around today and at this point in time Hidden Falls north gate in St Paul looks pretty appealing. Its right by the river, has a boat launch, lots of parking, many grills, shelters and field to play ball.

I'll keep looking for other good places, feel free to suggest if you know of a good place.

I would offer my place later in the year for anotehr meetin gplace.. its kind of a big drive, but hey plenty of parking.. (10-40 acres) its gonna have a heated garage, etc... so I will be up to having some events over my place possibly, but then again with some of the crap on here lately, not sure if I want too either.. guess I will watch and see

While everyone is still chafed and raw in their undercarriage I thought I'd suggest reaching out to another local enthusiast group I'm very familiar with - www.morcmtb.org. The "leaders" here could chat with them about structuring the legal entity, etc.

There really is no point to it though if you're not actually going to do something with the capital raised. MORC raises quite a bit of money but it is largely poured into gaining and maintaining mountain bike trails in addition to a variety of social/race events.

What would mnsubaru do with the money - subsidize events, track time, group pro-tunes, etc?

If you don't have a plan then all you have is a website, stickers and shirts. Which is just fine too.
