1. I've got and 07 STI (45K miles) and I can feel a slighty shake\bounce the first five miles I drive. It is very suttle. It seems to go away after driving it for a hand full of miles. Any idea what this could be? I thought it was an out of balance tire, but it the bounce would be there all the time. Unless it goes away when the tire heats up? I have little less than half-tread left on my R70's Any thing else I should look at? 2. My tires seem to slide when backing up and turning at the same time. Could this be alligment or do I need to change meh tires? 3. It seems like my steering wheel wants to pull to the left when stopping. I'm thinking brake, but it seems they have a lot of pad left. Is it possible one of my brembo calipers are grabbing too much? I know that's not a lot of information, but I hope its enough to get some ideas flowing. CW
1) not really following you here, but completely OT question... how much is less than half tread? Are these your original tires? Might wanna double check your tread depth for safety's sake (unless most of the 45k total miles are on snow tires or something). 2) sounds like the dccd doing it's job if by slide you mean skip or spin. 3) Could be normal (road, tires, etc...). Does it always pull only to the left under braking?
The slight vibration you speak of is probably just the tires getting flat-spotted from sitting. Completely normal, as long as it goes away after driving for a bit.
Idget: I said less than half to be on the safe side. I purchased the car in December and the tires had about 10K miles on them. (dealer claims) I immediately changed them out for some winter tires until Mis-April. They seem to have a lot of tread. I wasn't aware about the skip and spin with DCCD, but it does make sense since my other AWD and 4-wheel drive vehicals would do the same on dry pavement. I assumed the uber Subie AWD would eliminate that. (didn't notice it earlier in the summer) I believe it does pull a little when engine braking. Shibbs: That would be odd unless the tires are known to do that. The cat sits no more than 12 hours. Makes sense though. Thanks for the ideas!
Has nothing to do with the DCCD. You have an LSD in the rear and sharp slow turns (like backing up) will always cause one wheel to turn faster then the other.. hence the sliding/skipping.
