I just got my ej25 out of the RS this weekend and I've been tearing it down to change the head gaskets. I'm also doing as much cleaning as I can before I put it all back together. The questions..

Is there any way to refurbish the old nuts/bolts? Like a cleaning solution or something.

Is there any problem with hot-tanking the manifold? Where do I go about getting it hot-tanked and what should I expect it to cost?

I've been wire-brushing parts and it's getting them relatively clean but is there any cleaning solution or techniques I should be using to get parts cleaner?

Can a motor run entirely on rust? because mine's apparently been doing so for years...

Sea-Foam works great for soaking parts.

If you are trying to clean up old nuts and bolts and all that a wire wheel on a grinder works awesome. If they are damaged, just get new ones from a hardware store.

Yeah I'm going to replace all the ones I can but some are just weird sizes that I doubt I'll find

Fastenal is your friend for replacement bolts/nuts...Some of the stores have funky hours, but I've never had anything I can't find there.

If you have rusty nuts or bolts, muriatic acid does a great job of cleaning the rust off. It can be bought at most hardware stores.

As far as important fasteners for an engine go, I'd buy new. For basic cleaning, a wire wheel on a drill works wonders. Cleaning carbon from parts can be done with carb cleaner or Seafoam.

Find a auto repair garage with a parts cleaner/hot tank. Bring in your parts and they'll throw it in the hot-tank. Remove all your electrical sensors from the intake manifold first. Prices vary, you should call them first.

What do you mean by a motor running entirely on rust? EJ25 have an aluminum block/head/intake manifold.

Yeah I have the manifold all stripped and ready to go but the places I've called around me don't do hot-tanking, the search continues.

Ha I realize they're all aluminum, it was a East Coast car so everything that can, be covered in rust, is.
