OK, so since my last question about the exhaust systems... I have since picked up a Greddy Evo2 system, and I am pretty excited to get that put on. However, It came with an ERZ (ebay) bell mouth downpipe. And I have heard some mixed reviews about that piece. Has anyone else had a really good or really bad experience with this downpipe? I have heard about it making extra rattling noises, and bumping into other components...

Thanks in advance for your input!

I have not, but you could always install it and see how it fits! Make sure it clears everything. Make sure it doesn't make your exhaust system sit weird under the rest of the car. If you put your modified heat shield back on the car, make sure it isn't rubbing anywhere that may cause a rattle. That is what I would do, Install and Inspect.

    Then Tune

Just make sure they have the same flange between the dp and catback.

A couple erz dps I've installed have come pretty close to the firewall. You just end up needing to move or trim the ac drain hose a little.

Some polyurethane exhaust hangers from Kartboy worked wonders on a rattling exhaust for me.

The downpipe worked just fine on the car that it came off of. He did have kartboy hangers too I believe.

Would heat wrapping be ok? I was thinking of doing that instead of reusing the heat shield.

I modified my heat shield (Russ helped me with that, and helped me install my DP). I am not the guru on heat wrapping. There are a few people on here that know their stuff and could tell you what they think about it.... I thought i remember someone saying something about water absorption issues with it.... but i am not the person to give advice about it.

I would do both. Seriously. I personally prefer doing everything you can to keep temps down and/or controlled, especially if you do a lot of stop and go driving.

Only heat wrap the top half (the half that is in the engine bay). If you go any lower than that it will start to fray from road debris. I'd also highly recommend coating the wrap (if you don't get the pre-coated stuff). I've had wrap catch on fire a couple times even with coating. No major damage but definitely sucked lol

Sheen - did you ever have issues with the wrap soaking up water?

Are there any places here in the city that sell the Kart Boy hangers? Would you recommend the 12mm or 15mm?

Yes, that's how one of the fires started lol. That was with the regular heat wrap that was spray coated. The coating wears off after time... rain wears it down... it gets dry, brittle, and hot... maybe some flammable fluid gets on it and you end up with melted radiator fans. I got really lucky with that one... noticed it on a post-install test drive (new fmic, header and wrap was old) and happened to have a gallon of water with me.

I've also used the pre-coated wrap (both with an extra coat of sprayed and as is) and never had issues with that kind. Of course, they were used in different areas (header vs up, dp, and turbo), so it's not a direct comparison.

Yeah, I wish i would have known about this when i installed my DP.... at this point I am not sure that I want to rip stuff out just to wrap it.

    Thanks for the info
