Will it just plug in (after I pull the dash out)or what would I have to do?

I think the tach will swap from any 93-01 impreza or 95-99 legacy. If I remember right(but not 100% sure) my Brighton (legacy) has an impreza tach. Just go to j/y, they list 2 imprezas in Rosemount right now. If you're lazy and don't care about correct milage on the odometer - just swap the cluster, or pull it apart and swap only the tach. Your cluster is wired to have a tach put-in, you'll just need to put back-light bulbs from the donor cluster.

Go download FSM for imprezas. All you need is a bunch of screwdrivers.

i also have a 96 impreza brighton that didnt come with a tach. the only tool you need to put a tach in is a screwdriver. go to u pull and get a tach and light bulbs behind the tach from an impreza or legacy with the same dash layout.

i think there are 6 screws holding the cluster in, two facing up and two facing down on the plastic surround, and two holding the actual cluster in (behind the surround). so take the first four screws out to remove the surround (there will be 2 harness plugs on the right side that have to be disconnected), take the two screws out and take the cluster out. when taking the cluster out the speedo cable and a harness will have to be disconnected (just pull the cluster out a little bit to disconnect the harness, then keep pulling and the cable will disconnect from the back). once the cluster is out take the screws out and open cluster to access the gauge plate. unscrew the tach from the back and take the bulbs that were behind it.

do the same to your car to put the tach in and then do the opposite to put it back together. the only trouble you might have when putting it back together is the speedo cable. just plug it in after the cluster is back in, go from underneath the dash, it is way easier. you might have to twist the cable back and forth to get it to seat.

    hope this helps a little

You and Tim can come over Friday and spend all night figuring out how to remove the gauge cluster.

it doesn't seem lke it will be too difficult just a couple screws and the speedo cable. Whats the worst that could happen...

You break mine and I'm still going to gut it and fit new gauges in it anyway.

For your epic failure this evening, I have decided that your punishment will be to watch me destroy the tachometer in my gauge cluster on YouTube. The destruction will commence first thing in the morning. You have till 9am to arrive. If you do not arrive by 9am, I will be killing any hope of a free gauge cluster with tach that you might have had.
