    Hey everyone,

I am in the need of new headlight bulbs, and I was wondering what people have been happy with. I have been using the sylvania Silverstars which give a nice white color, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying something new. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Silverstars aren't worth the money.

Check out the Lighting FAQ on NASIOC. Its WELL worth the LONG read. Seriously.

    Ditto Shibbs...

I helped my dad put +50's from the store listed in the post in his Saturn... They we're bright. Very nice.

Honestly, the price isn't too bad. The lamp difference is so great, I have considered just upgrading just because the current bulbs in the RS seem a dim comparatively...

The two current kings are Phillips Xtreme Power +80 and Silvania NightBreaker +90. Depending on your bulb type, one brand might not be availalbe.

I've been using Silverstars in all my cars, but then again we sell them at work and get a discount... I had them in my CRX for 2 years and never had one burnout. I am very satisfied with them, nice and bright (my parents house is out in the middle of nowhere with lots of deer, I love really bright lights that actually project out there (unlike HIDS in non-projector housings), and so far haven't found a need to get anything else... If the is something even brighter, and projects as far or further, and lasts as long, i'd love to try if they aren't a crap load of money... The first thing I get when i get a new car is Silverstars and Bosch Icons (or rain-x latitudes, depending on what we have in stock at my work)... To me nothing is better than visibility..

Been running Silverstar Ultras in various vehicles for years now. They have been good to me and are plenty bright. The silver/blue box regular Silverstars are crap and burn out fast. The orange box Ultras are better and have proven durable thus far. Like bubba, I get a discount on them at my work and pay almost half of what retail is on them so that makes it all the more worth it to me.

i thought that 4300 or 6000's were brighter than 12k anyways....im pretty sure once you get that hot in color you lose brightness too

4300's are about 50% brighter (in lumens) then 12,000.

I had TERRIBLE luck with the Silvania Nightbreaker +90 bulbs. I ran them almost 2 years ago and went thru bulbs like no other. I had a pair in my headlights and a pair in my fogs, with upgraded wiring, went thru 3 bulbs in a little over a year. The light output is amazing, probably the best halogen bulb i have ever used, and initially i loved them, but they kept burning out. Finally switched to HID's and never looked back.

I would bump the DDM Performance HID bulbs. They are great, easy to put in. I will have them on all future cars, just like good snow tires.

The service life on most the bulbs like the Nightbreaker and Xtreme Power are about 1/2 of a normal bulb (specs directly from their website). That does not explain your issue but do expect them to burn out more. Given that they cost about 3-4 times as much as a standard bulb and output about 15% more lumens I don't see the appeal.

We've had PIAA's in the WRX for three years with no issues. I went through a few silvercraps before I gave up on them. Even with my DRL's disabled they still managed to go out every 6 months.
