Couple quick questions: Does anyone have a link to a How To thread for the intake silencer delete? Any suggestions as to a cheap place to get a K&N filter? Thanks,
K&N- pretty much anywhere nowadays...even wallie world. try scoobymods.com for the modification how to's....
Michael: I just realized that you're the guy I talked to a few months back at loch jewelers! My girlfriend and I came in to have you "appraise" her ring and we ended up looking at wedding bands We talked about scooby's a bit
Sweet, You and your wife both have a wrx, right? You told me about MN Subaru, that’s why I’m on here now, I have enjoyed the forum and have told other guys with subies since.
Yes, you are correct. She has the 04 wrx wagon, I have the 02 wrx wagon We're not husband and wife yet...soon though. Glad I could spread the word! I still have my card for #76-00207. Took me a second to put 2 and 2 together.
Sounds good, I'd be happy to help you with anything you need in the Jewelry Business, Heck we could make a 6 diamond studed suby emblem. I can see how it would be hard to put 2 and 2 togther. I've never meet Scuba steve but if even isn't dressed like a clown, I don't now how I could tell it's him.:laugh::laugh:
Ok, so there is a popular map salesperson selling maps that have as their requirements for a simple stage 2: a k+n drop in and silencer delete, and with a race map, aside from other requirements, a 65mm CAI (of certain brands) is listed. What I'm wondering is...if the map maker just happened to have such mods when said map was made, and is just covering his/her ass just in case, or if those mods actually are necessary, proven needed parts to said map(s)? Or if the stock airbox would do just as good up untill (xxxhp/tq/maf/etc)? I'd like to see some logs...
The only thing wrong with the stock box is airflow. There will be 2 restrictions. the first one is getting air inside the box. The silencer delete will help with that and sealing the box to the fender will help. If need be, back in the old days, some of the guys were installing the air horn from the fender to the box and were claiming some good gains. The other thing you could do is just make the inlet hole in the box larger to make sure that the next restriction is the only restriction. That will be the MAF housing. Once you max that out, the only thing you can do from there is go to a big MAF. Russ
I took out my silencer and dropped in the K&N last night. The new grumble and turbo whine sound is pretty cool, and although I haven't had time to open it up, the car does seem a little bit quicker and seems to spool a little faster. Would it restrict much air or do anything good or bad to throw a chunk of panty-hose over the air box inlet to keep the big stuff (bugs, gravel, etc) out? I need to get new fender liners because mine are all beat up and I don't want a ton of gunk pouring in the airbox, but thought the extra "filter" might help?
I think I know who you speak of. He used an Injen CAI to tune some of his maps. This doesn't mean it's going to work for your car though. If you have the stock airbox on, it's probably going to run a little rich. Your best bet would be getting a wbo2 on at the least and logging your car.
Here are the pics I said I would post. There not great I took them last night but they should do the tirck. You can see part of the stock silencer there not much left but the bolt for the inside fender which holds it in place through the fender and into the air box.
I got bored and had time, so this is what happened. I check my filter and found out that the previous owner bought a dropin K&N filter. Thank U cause I almost bought one yesterday. Saved me $50. Anyways, i took out the OEM silencer/resonator box and customed it (see pics below). After i took it out and studied it, i thought that maybe i could cut the box up and maybe patch it up to make an elbow like the GP. And this is what happened. It all still looks OEM with the ram and everything. -Glue gun -Utility Knife -Tape -Drill -1hour and elbow grease (Sorry, shaky camera phone. Too much caffiene and i forgot to charge my 1080p camera.) Even drilled water/rain drains, just in case. It actually came out pretty good. Nice and smooth elbow. This is what the resontator box looked like after it had been used and abused. After
