wow, this got out of hand quickly, my shenanigans statement was all in good humor, it wasnt to take it as far as bielkenutss50000 took it
It's always easier to blame everyone else. The internet is not to be taken too seriously, and like always....this site has decided to take everything just as seriously as nasioc. The problem here is, that MOST the moderators think they are above the law, as they deal with "the babies" as you so put it. If you don't want to do the job, pass it along to others that can. Don't cry about it when people ask why mods are allowed to have special permissions that others aren't allowed to have.
I have to agree with what both of these people said. And can someone please explain to me someone can be "out of line" by having a BOLD website in your signature?
What the hell is everyone complaining about now? Is this seriously about animated gifs!? WTF Move the F on, this is retarted.
I guess I'm just really confused. I've only been here for a year and don't know of the past, but this seems like one of the most harmless message boards I've ever been a member of. Nothing even remotely dramatical occuring here that I've seen. People getting anoyed at each other? Sure. But it's not like anyone has it out for anyone in any real sense (ie threats, violence, maliciousness, etc.). Trust me, I've seen worse. I think people are a little overly P.C. around here, but other than that, I'm still a little confused over all the animosity.
There has been enough problems in the past, and for the most part, it's been kept away from the population of the board because we are not mods.
Exactly. And I think we should be able to discuss these things without it getting out of control. It seems like a lot of old issues come up. One thing to remember is that the current mods weren't the moderators when those things happened. So, I don't have an answer for Alex about the sigs for example. Anyway, I've heard readymix say a few times that people feel like they can't complain about anything here. And I don't want that to be the case, if you have a complaint let someone know. I'd say just explain it a bit so people can understand.
I honestly get sick of hearing that. I say put it all out there on the table. I'm sick of hearing the hinting of someone doing this or that wrong. If it was soooooo wrong, put it out there and let people be their own judge of the actions, or just ban the person outwrite and be done with it and move on. I get sick of seeing these whiny threads start up over and over and over and over again. knowhatimean?
yes, I know what you mean, and for once, I agree with you bummpy. i suppose this is how I view these sort of conflicts and all the drama and whining and heehaw: we're all subaru friends, can't we play nice? Maybe, mods, it's time to create a "drama" forum, where people can go to sling their ****, but keep it out of the way of the for sale things and the maintenance...
It's been done. Numerous times. It solves nothing. Laying it out on the table again will only serve to enflame a bunch of people and cycle this place back into turmoil. And honestly, unless you were here 3 years ago to feel the vibe this place had and were around during the all the B.S., then there really is no way to explain it. If you want, you can talk to me at F.S. But I'm going to be brief about it since I don't feel like dredging the whole thing up again. A good cliff's notes on the issue: Two very stubborn people butted heads. The site was split into two sites, one run by one guy, one run by the other. This polarized the site, and caused alot of people to get pissed off. Eventually an agreement was put together to end the bickering. One of those people was a little slow in doing his end of the bargain, and some of the numbers didn't add up on the money, so the other discarded his end of the bargain. Alot of people were and still are angry that the heart of this place died due to the bickering of a few power hungry people. That's a neutral point of view. The two involved will likely litter this post with accusations and bias, but that's the basics of it.
Jason is correct. We did have a meeting to bring up all the crap and everyone agreed to just move on. There are some people that can't drop it. Whatever, time to move on. As for the av's, people can't control themselves, so we had some 3-4mb animated av's killing the dial-up people (yes there are still quite a few people on dial-up). Same with the sigs, some people couldn't control themselves and f'd it up for everyone. Alex, just stfu on the whole thing. It was a year ago, just drop it. If everyone whats to keep dredging up the past, we will never move forward. Russ
while i totally agree with moving on, i dont forsee it ever happening, like jason said, two extremely stubborn people will never see eye to eye. and as long as some people are backstabbers and like to make stories up it will never EVER end.
my wife handles my willy pretty good.. maybe she should be in charge... she would say No to all of you and close down the site, go back to watching a 3yr old, a 2yr old and a 1 yr old play along nicer.... with less fights and hissy fits... and Alex.. you are free to speak what you want but I would just say it would show wisdom to stay out of it...
Thanks, I've never been called Captain. I actually only made the rank of E4 before I got out of the military. I would've had to move to get an E5 slot and I didn't want to do that...btw I can't believe that having an animated avatar actually upset some people. Very sorry. I didn't think it would cause a debate or put me in a situation where I could be accused of being above the law. To be honest, I was getting sick of the mountain bike picture and wanted something new. But let me take an opportunity for rebuttal since I was singled out in this case... Yes, us mods and the admin staff have different abilities than regular site members. We also have obligations to this site whereas you do not have any obligations. You get to come and go as you please. Don't get me wrong, I'm honored that I'm a mod and have been asked to help maintain the site and encourage positive growth. However, we are actually obligated to maintain some level of consistency and cohesiveness. Wow, I get a small reward for doing so. Let me explain it another way...Whether it's a corporate environment or a website like this there will be an infrastructure in place which is designed to maintain some sort of integrity. And as I'm sure you are aware, the various levels of obligations/responsibilities sometimes come with perks. In this case as a mod I get to work for free, but I get an animated avatar....Wow, I can see how one could get the perception that I'm above the law. Should Morries and other service providers get some sort of perks too? Seriously, that's a good question we can discuss. Let me clarify though...you as a service provider want perks. You are not representing regular site users, just service providers? Honestly, I don't believe any of the mods or admin staff knew that you felt this was a one sided relationship? Your statement outlines the fact that Morries provides perks to the club members. You are absolutely correct, and we truly appreciate it. However, framing your statement as you did is not correct as it is not a one sided relationship. Yes, Morries provides discounted parts & labor...and MNSubaru provides Morries with an additional source for advertisement and another revenue stream... Side note...why do i always use the three dots...even I'm getting sick of it. Okay, back to topic... (see there I did it again):eek3: Your questions and comments are valid, there's no argument there. The way you posed your questions and comments were out of line and immature. (yeah yeah, I understand it's the internet) Still, if you feel you have a valid argument you may want to frame it in a way that gets your point across without pissing people off. Here's a general statement not just to you Brian...You will be heard and your arguments will be considered with more validity when you don't sound like you're just bitching or pointing fingers. Hence the reason why sometimes the Mods & Admin staff seem a bit defensive. Sorry, we'll work on that on our part. In keeping with good spirit...if the group still feels it's not fair that I have an animated avatar as a mod perk please let me know, I'll change it.
x75 yea.....not funny anymore. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, because I don't think it gets said enough. I think the moderators are doing an awesome job here. so what if a couple of them have short, animated avatars. So, a genuine, and proud THANK YOU to all of them. did you come here to look at other people's avatars? this is a car club. why can't it be about the cars?!?! I'm here because of my passion for Subarus. I'd like to see a short description of what car(s) members have in their signature, but since there are only a hand full of people who used their sig for subaru-related stuff.....I'd rather see them turned off.
Then deal with the problem people instead of implementing blanket rules because of a few. You can also set size/character limits. I also think that it looks very bad telling others they can't have gifs as avatars but you as mods can. It's a lead by example type thing. Do I care personally? No. Is it helping things around here? Obviously not. Don't know the history of the board as I'm pretty new. Don't really care to either. One thing that's pretty obvious is things don't seem right even after a leadership change and a bizzilion rules.
Agreed. All of the mods, except for one, are doing a hell of a job here. Also, remember, Scuba Steve likely didn't know that non-mods can't have animated avatars when he loaded his up. He doesn't get the error message that we do.
It makes me LOL. I think the mods deserve something for putting up with everyone's crap. And +1 on the mods doing their job well!
Thanks everyone, it's appreciated. Honestly though, we are sometimes quick to become defensive due to the nature the questions/comments and how they are presented to us. We do need to work on our method of responses....there's always room for improvement. seriously...thanks again!
I'm kind of curious to see how spectacular these animated gif files are. They must be out of this world good to be worth getting this hot under the collar for. Care to post some examples ? Stuart.
Im trying to find the thread where all the current moderators were introduced, can the mods help me find that?
I was just thinking about that. It's actually kind of ironic, you were the OP here and by post #4 you were over the fact that there weren't any animated gifs. Done deal. Everything else here seems to be just passive agressive jabs at the moderators. Let's just list them here and if people have beef with anyone of them on a personal level, send them a pm and get over it. Or at least get that crap out of here.
Okay im sorry. But, Dave is a friend of mine and at first this did start off as a jab at him. A sort of poking fun in a way. But then it got out of control. I'm sorry if someone took it the wrong way and "got their panties in a bundle" about this.
Well, I guess i try.:ugh: The reason that we had them set that large was because of the complaints that the small size wasn't large enough. Kinda like the pm box, we had a couple of people complain that they could not have more than 1000 pm's, so we fixed the issue by giving everyone 10k pm's. So on one had we had people saying that they didn't have enough space for their mini movies, and we had other people complaining that it take 30 min to load a page. And Dream http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14996&highlight=moderators Russ
True, I could care less but I agree 100% with webcrawlr, he nailed it on the head. I dont have any beef with the mods, thanks and have a nice day.
Sometimes it's just easier to maintain consistency by implementing rules that everyone has to follow, even if it because of a few that may have originally may have abused it. Will this type of action appease everyone? No, most of the it time it doesn't. But, with anything there are limitations in regards to our ability to tailor rules/limitations/perks to the members on the board. One issues that MNSubaru has that other boards do not is that we are a tight-nit community and everyone's voice is heard, for better or worse. With that said, people can sometimes take personal offense to actions/rules implemented by the staff & mods vs. on other boards it's just a blanket rule and member's complaints or issues are not so publicly apparent or have the opportunity to take personal offense to the rules/actions implemented. hope that makes sense....trying to multi task. Dream, you forgot a decimal point, I've fixed it for you.
Just for the record: my comment wasn't by any means directed at you. Also for the record: I don't have any problems with anyone here in any way shape or form.
