Any reason I should be looking catted DP?

    The rotten egg/sulfur smell is from the catalyst in the coverter, not excess fuel buildup in the pipe.

    I already addressed this ie diminishing returns.

    Cost = $200/($18,000+$5000) = 1.1% of total cost

    That's a (conservative) $200 difference for a catted dp, the cost of (at least my) 04 WRX, plus the est. total cost of mods I'll probably do over the lifetime of my car. For an 07 Sti it's probably closer to .5%

    Gain = 3hp/250hp = 1.2%

    That's quite generous for 2.0 WRX and the total hp for an sti would be even larger. Either way, it's negligible.

    You're not paying much more for much less hp, it's a moot argument. You don't even have to take into account the hippy factor when we're talking about a daily driven car. The gains and costs just aren't there. The downsides certainly are.

    whats that got to do with being professional.. I aint offering my services to him or my shops' services.. quite frankly I couldnt care less if he ever came to my shop or not... i have plenty of people on here and oustide of an internet forum who come to my shop cause they know I dont rip them off, i am honest and I take care of people... but if he wants to be a jerk and match wits, it is like him coming to a pistol match armed with a pocket knife... he starts insulting me, then I will call him out...

    he has 7 posts and starts being a **** to long term members, is a great way to be harrassed on any site.. this site aint a nasty site but if you are gonna come on and start being an idiot to members who are known on this site to be helpful (and joking 99% of the time) then why wouldnt you expect to be burnt....

    back on topic...

    ultimately it comes down to preference and legality...

    we all know it is illegal (FEDERAL LAW) to run catless... and it does stink.. i just havent really noticed mine...

    as far as performance I would agree with bummpy... I dont think that 5-10 hp (being very generous) would make a notcieable difference other than on a real dyno...

    me personally I made my complete turbo back... so the cost of me putting cats into my DP was more than buying the already catted DP, and back when I built mine I didnt have any cash to spend (spending 1.5M to open a business) so I tinkered fo rfun.. it worked way better than expected and so I have left it that way... truthfully I would love to do a nicer exhaust eventually... well at least the divorced wg type with a cat in it already... but who knows if I ever will....

    so ultimately everyone has their preferences...

    temper gentleman, temper. I didn't create this thread to start a cat fight (ahh). I was merely looking for some helpful insights so that I could buy a downpipe....geez. I've run racing pipes on my sportbike and enjoyed the smells and sounds...and on the bike it made noticeable power improvements. The car will be doing some track duty in the summer and may become more track dedicated in 3-4 years when I can buy a tow vehicle, which is why I was leaning towards catless. I'm by no means an expert when it comes to understanding all of the mods and their affect on the car...but that's why I'm a member on this forum and the reason for this thread.

    I've never been considered a hippie before...that's a new one. I don't even own a tie-dye shirt or birkenstocks...

    For those heading up north, have fun this weekend.

    I've ridden and raced motorcycles for a long time, and the smell inside the car without a cat is much stronger than my racebike ever was (except for when the gas tank was leaking).

    To each his own.
