you're talking the stock exhaust mani? that's a snap. Passenger side- Just wiggle it around and it will eventually drop out. I know the heat shield on top is a pain, but it will come out.

I was trying to take the stock off on one piece, pulling the top heatshield off now, it was rubbing on the oil filter. I figure that was my issue. I'll know in a minute.

Yeah...loosen up the bolts that are attached to the driver side mani/crosspipe...that should make it easier to pull off. If you're putting the stocker back on, just loosely bolt the driver side mani to the crosspipe. That way it'll allow some play when putting it back on. And make your life a lot easier then trying to put it on with it all tightened up.

Yea, taking off the stock, the heat shield was a fn pain in the ass.
So now I'm thinking I need to take the cross, and driver side off and wriggle the rest.
    Good times.

    yes, and no....

The headers / uppipe would have fit, had I been able to jack the engine a little bit to slide in the uppipe..

    however...

the last minute decision after being under my car forever in a day, was to get it running so I could get to work tomorrow.

so, I ran to grimspeed, got a new uppipe, and will be looking for a different set of headers ,especially since I didn't want to fiddle with a bunch of tuning tonight.

so, all that work... and I'm sporting an up-pipe. which btw, is a very nice chunk of metal. however.. i think shes rattling on the subframe.... or the corner of the engine... because I hear a noise that sounds a bit like a wheel ball bearing is going out.
was louder when I first started the car... but after test driving it a little to try and find out what it was coming from it quieted down to almost non existant... still there occasionally tho... and it might just take some time for everything to adjust..

    heres my deductions...

under revs there is no noise,
under high speed - with no gas there is no noise
in a straight line high boost, there is no noise.
it only seems to rattle when i'm turning and under gas.
might just be a subaru making subaru noises tho... since I left ALL the shielding off.

but hey, feel free to jump in with ideas :)

yeah that's a good conclusion. I am not sure what to say but you should double check all the bolts or maybe jack it and run it for a bit. maybe you've already done that.

its a grimspeed - found out it's the pipe rattling on the crossmember. I needed a fix to get to work and justin helped me out of a tight bind. it's getting taken care of tho which is more then appreciated.
