So, on Saturday, I replaced a stuck front left caliper on my 2000 Legacy (reman 2-pot from Carquest, which I've been told are factory cores). I had intentions of bleeding it with the Mityvac, so I was going to teflon tape the bleeder screw threads. Upon removing the bleeder screw, it was either manufactured incorrectly or it was never intended come out, because some threads folded over and covered the hole on the inside of the bleeder, rendering it useless. I ended up just re-drilling the hole, reassembling it, and it bled and held perfectly. Mainly I want to know what to expect when I bleed the rest of them in the near future. What I would like to do is remove the screws and tape the threads, as it makes the vacuum bleed process work perfectly rather than acceptably. Does Subaru manufacture bleeder screws to not removable?
Yea, definitely not normal. bleeder screws are very much removable and replaceable. What you have there is most likely a result of a crappy remanufactured caliper.
Nope, another vote for this never happening to me. I have heard if you ever have this happen to a seized bleeder screw, (but it doesn't sound like this is the case for yours), heat up the caliper around the screw with a pocket torch, then touch ice to the screw. Supposedly this breaks them free.
