What can one have for aux lighting and still be legal to drive? I really want a set of driving lights but don't want to get pulled over for such.

Look at ScandiaWRX's post a few posts up, she quotes the statute on lighting.

Yes, reading for comprehension is good.

Cliff notes: two 55w driving pattern lights, only on with the high beams. If you also have fogs, they can't be on at the same time as the driving lights.

Carl, that is kinda what I wanted to do with mine but am waiting till I can afford some HIDs. I love the way that looks and should function really well. The way I have mine setup is easier to build when most of the parts were already built by someone else for a different car.

Damn! Those are huge! I have some on the way as well. Cant wait to get them up and running.
For running 130w bulbs, did you make your own harness to support the extra wattage or did you just put a larger fuse in the harness that comes with the lights?

The lights I sold Amy are lamps only, no wiring harness, so it was a custom harness.

The harness that comes in the FF1000 kit (traditional driving pattern only) is reputed to support 130W bulbs, but I've looked at it and while it probably won't melt, it will probably have enough voltage drop to dim the lights.

The FF1000s that Amy has are pencil beams, which mean they're a tighter focus than your traditional driving beam and are great for really long range vision when driving fast. I still have some for sale. As well as a few H1 100 and 130W bulbs.

Well for a factory hella harness, you will need to upgrade the fuse in order to run 130w bulbs, since the relay is no bigger than a 30a at the very most. So that's what I was wondering.
    130watters-- 130x2=260
    260w = 13.5V = 19.25a
So a 25a fuse is needed. The harness comes with a 15a.

I was curious because I have some ff1000 driving beams on the way and I was going to run 100watters due to the temp at a stop. They could melt or break the lamps themselves, which is why I was hesitant on running the 130w bulbs.

I'll sell them for $50 each picked up (that's one lamp). They sell for $75-100 each most places, so that's 33% off. And no shipping if you come get them in S. Mpls. they come with 55W Hella or Osram bulbs (Hella shipped them both ways), and are new in box.

100W or 130W H1 bulbs are $6 each. I'd have to look at how many I have in each wattage.

They are so bright, I typically only use them when volunteering at rallies and make an effort not to turn them on until I'm rolling. 130wx2 sure makes driving through the forest after dark more comfortable.

Sorry, I don't recall what size wiring we used. But Vector is a smart guy, among many others here, and can recommend a suitable gauge to use.

Yea, Vector is selling the pencil beams, which would go great with the four driving beams I will be installing shortly. Not sure if my bar could handle another set.

What brand bulbs do you sell Vector? I want to run 100w in two and 130w in the other two just to compare output and then choose which one I like better after that.

Look what came a little earlier today... Four FF1000's driving lights. Got them from rallylights.com for $80 a pair. That price was with the holiday 10% off. Only thing that sucks is that I ordered four clear rock guards and they only shipped two. What the?? The receipt says I pay for four. Hmm..

I just ordered my good lights. Hella optilux combo driving/fog lights. I've had a set of these before, but busted them up when they were mounted under my bumper on my lifted wagon. essentially 2 pairs of lights, with 2 different beam patterns, with 55w H3 bulbs, AND wiring, for $70 from JCW.

ARG! everyone is rocking fog lights now. I will alteast need to make mine work i guess.

Rich: awesome job mounting the ff1000s on the RS. I have always thought that was a great place to put some fogs.

thanks. I put them there so the snow banks wont break them as easily as if they were mounted infront of the bumper. I have a feeling there will be alot of busted lights this year.

It's not blue at all. It's a pure (hyper) white.

Nice! Ahh to order or not to order?? See I feel as if I would have to make it worth while and do map lights, dome light, ashtray light, license plate lights, trunk light, and glove box (I can't remember if there is one though, there is no listing).

168 is the same as a 194, which is the same as the plate bulbs and front running lights for the 06/07, so you're in good shape.

    Flat4--plate bulbs are 194 (168)
It's the fourth bulb down on this link:

I just installed a set of the newest hella 500ff driving pattern light that I got for christmas and they are crazy bright!! I can light up a stop sign from 6 blocks away, no joke! This is with just 55w bulbs, I'm using the stock harness and I would like to try 85w or maybe even 100w if I get daring.

Guys... have a question for ya. I'm looking for someone with aux lights hooked up in their 06/07 wrx only, where you have the lights hooked up to work just off the switch and to turn on/off with the highbeams. I need to know where and what color the high beam wire is in the engine bay and the same for the parking light wire under the dash.

I don't want to buy an 07 wrx specific book if I don't have to.

I want to get these lights up and running asap!

I'm on that thread. That diagram was made specifically for me by Williaty! I still need to know the color wire of at least the parking light wire and it's where abouts under the dash.

In state 06-07 wrx guys. I have a custom made light bar that is made to hold four lights right at the bumper line..even with the headlights. Bought it new for $200..willing to sell for $150.
Pm me for pics and info if you're interested. I also have a fs thread in the classifieds.
