HAVING some problems with install on my new avo tmic. The fitmenr if off, when the bolts on the turbo are ligned up the hose from intake manifold is short along with then the braket to hold the tmic doesnt fir Ive even brought it to a subaru dealer ship and they couldnt put it in. So naturally im a little frustrated, so i called the place i got it from and he gave me the reps name and number. I talked to him and he says rotate the turbo a little to get proper fitment. The service manager says hell have his guy try it but he doesnt think it will fit. What do you guys think i should do? Any tips?
Sounds about like the Perrin/IPR TMIC. I would NOT try to clock the turbo. What I did when I had the IPR TMIC was the following: Remove rubber end caps from both sides of the throttle body to intercooler hose (yes, you need to do this, and you need to do it to both sides of the hose). Install the TMIC into the throttle body hose just far enough so the clamp doesn't slip off. Tighten down the clamp. Move to the turbo side and push/pull the intercooler onto the turbo. If you've done everything else right it shouldn't take too much muscle. Once you get one of those bolts started on the turbo, it should go pretty smooth after that. Just don't tighten any of the bolts down until they are all started (including the one on the bracket on the driver's side). Hope that helps!
I guess I'm just upset I paid 750 for it and it doesn't really fit! Your right tho I'm not gonna reclock the turbo but you don't even think the subie techs could do it? I mean that's just what the avo rep said.....he also said I could call him directly for my next parts and he would at least give me 15% off
Return the TMIC. 1. If you want a TMIC buy the IPR one and save some money! I own it, xluben owed one. They are great TMICs and you can even get them heat coated. 2. For the amount of money you spent buy the FMS FMIC! Talk to xluben about it (the install). You will be happy with the quality and not have to worry about heat soak. I wish I would have gone FMIC the first time. Now I have to buy another intercooler come spring and sell my TMIC for the new setup. Derek
If I had to guess, the IPR will fit exactly the same. From what I've seen online, all the bigger stock location, stock mounting TMIC's are a tight fit like that. Some people are just more willing to muscle them into place than others. If you need a hand, come out to the lift day tomorrow and I'll see what I can do. The FMIC is a real PITA to install, and if you think the TMIC is a bad fit, you will be VERY disappointed with the FMS FMIC, lol. Lots of cutting as well as grinding and other modification of the core itself. For a stock turbo I would have to recommend sticking to a TMIC setup. I just don't think the FMIC is worth the headaches.
Really?!?! That is not what I thought you would have said. My IPR TMIC wasn't bad at all to get in. You just need the TB hose at the correct angle. Just like Ben said if you need help let him or myself know. I have done mine (and a few others) enough to be able to help you out
I'm having extreme mechanical problems with my car now, I think the tech moved my turbo because it would normally spool hard at around 3k rpm now it's trying to do it at 2000-2500 after I let off the gas no matter what gear I get huge pops and my car has stalled 2x after I left off the gas and stop at a light
