88 Toyota Camry DLX 4cyl. Got it this way. Fan speeds 1 & 2 doesn't work but 3 & 4 works fine. I tried replacing the swicth, nope. Wasn't that bc both new ones doesn't work on speeds 1 & 2 also. So I'm assuming somethings wrong with the electronics or blower. When I switch it to 1 or 2 I do here a click around the blower indicating there IS power. Just the blower/fan not spinning. Could it be the blower itself? but it does work in 3 & 4 and yes 4 does blow faster then speed 3. That makes me think its not the blower fan. There is only TWO wires going to the blower. There is two relay looking & one chip looking electronics close by the blower. Could it be those. According to my Repair Manual the chip looking electronic is "AC AMPLIFIER" and the other two relay looking ones are "COMRESSOR CONTROL AMPLIFIER" & "CONDENSER FAN CONTROL AMPLIFIER". Could it be those? What else can I check? (all fuses checked already)
Sounds like the blower motor resistor is the problem. Follow the wires going to the blower motor back to the resistor, should be held to the HVAC box by two or three screws, take out the screws, pull it out, should have some springy wires on the back side of it...check for any evidence of overheating (blackened components, broken wires...). Probably cost you less than $20 for a new one.
Will tear it apart and look again. Usually how does the resister look like? size? I'm thinking similar to an audio capacitor but way smaller...?
on the toyotas it looks like a flat circuit board with a plug with some holes on it, usually in the hvac box to cool it, you wont see the circuit board, just hte plug, look for some wires that go into the hvac box randomly, basically ones that dont belong
ok, I'm sure I got the right part but damn, they're $50-80. Guess I'll wait til a warmer day and just head to UPULL. thanks guys, I'm sure its this part too after reading some online info about the resistor. If it isn't then I'll update this post.
