And Tom, you had a great point a few posts back about the original argument between Berkeley and the Marines. Still, I think that taking action against a group that didn't set the policy but has to abide by it is foolishness. If they really wanted to make a difference they'd be picketing Washington or taking action through their elected representatives to repeal or redo the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law instead of harassing and belittling them.

Actually, I spend most of my day at work, as most people that know me will tell you. This is the most I've been online in weeks.
And I'm not generalizing, you spelled it right out for us...or was that you copy/pasting the big words I used in my posts again? Generalizing is saying that all high school kids are hateful racist bigots with no idea of how the world works or about different ways of life that other individuals follow. But see, I'm being very specific, I'm reading YOUR posts about muslims and such, and making pointed statements about YOU specificly based on what you've said. You might want to go look up in your little boy's college level dictionary the word "Generalize" and see what it means before you go typing big words like that on the internet. And, if you had any reading comprehension, you'd realize this has nothing to do with you as a highschool kid, this has to do with you being a closed-minded, racist jackass.

you talk about history. You think we are still living in a WW2 time or ColdWar? Time changed, big guns is not the most powerful thing a country can have. Stock markets and economy, based on decisions of very, very educated and smart people is what is the most powerful thing, that can kill all of is in a matter of a very short time. Great Depression anyone?

Forgot about flipflopping thing. I am respectful of others and their views. I am not stubborn and "set on one thing" like some. BTW in the government as well.

You forced my hand on this, AP courses are like a prep-school class. Not close to a true college education. I wouldn't want to jump on you for this, but your youthful ignorance and bigotry has forced my hand. I understand that it's fun and cool to go on the internet and try to mouth off like a douche canoe, but you need to understand that it's immature. Also, you're still young and in high school, I probably wouldn't be telling people this stuff while trying to enter debates about:

    A) Religion
    or
    B) Politics

You will instantly be discounted because you are:

    A) In High School and have no idea what the real world is like nor what it holds in store for you. Unless, of course, you've been holding down a job and living on your own for the last 5 years.
    B) Also displaying your naiveté by making the erroneous mistake of actually contributing that information to a forum about religion or politics. You're trying to jump into a ring of pro welterweights without your gloves on kid.

Alright, fine. i will, due to a personal request. Our stock market and economy is run by a large portion of outside sources at this point. our economy is in a recession, MN even announced it officially, which then leads to an economic depression if things don't turn. what was the saving grace from the great depression? guess, WAR! w00t, it was war that brought back the work force, jobs, and the industry that powered the country. right now we are outsourcing more than ever and we are loosing our own land and property to outside resources daily. we have less control of our own country than you would imagine.

I really, really dont feel like typing more, i think i tied my thoughts briefly enough to get my point and thought across without becoming longwinded.

All the same, it was information for consideration.

In any case, I heard about the protest but didn't catch the specific details. I think it's fine for protests to happen (as they are a right granted by the government), but when negotiation comes down people need to be willing to compromise. Berkeley could certainly live without the funding if they really had or wanted to, but in the end we'll see if they've got the resolve.

    Oh man, this is gold.

Illegals taking their parent's jobs? HAHAH, tell your friend's parents to WORK HARDER. Illegals don't take jobs, lazy Americans lose jobs to people that work harder for less money. Welcome to REALITY. Want to cure the illegal immigrant problem? Pay them the same wages you pay everyone else. Then there would be no benefit to hiring illegal immigrants. Maybe your friend's parents should go back to school and get a skill that they can use to get a job that can't easily be 'taken' by illegal immigrants.
And I live on HL2? Laugh. I haven't played a video game for over a month thanks to work and responsibilities. What free time I do have is usually spent at home with my lady doing big kid stuff like paying bills and taking care of my house. If I had time to play video games, I would.

Who said I was a liberal, I'm just a better informed conservative. Lack of ignorance with regard to social situations and the world as a whole doesn't make you a liberal or a democrat. I served in the military, I'd never vote Democrat. Sorry, you're wrong about me again.

Yes i do know this and i know that historically Wars helped out in situations like that. But its a different time right now. This war is not going in the direction it was intended to and i am pretty sure bunch of guys there in the white house and pentagon are sitting and bitting their nails thinking how deeply they are stuck in poo. We need less money to war more money home to help the economy right now.

You need to make the distinction between military and war. Military doesn't mean war. They are used to fight wars, but that is not their only purpose and function. If there was no war, the military is there to deter attacks.

Oh yeah, citizens have things to pay for like *taxes*, *social security* and *insurance*. Whereas Illegals of course, dont, so they survive on the low wages because they just leach off the economy.
So, by doing the same work harder, will get them more money? Yeah, sounds like a nice Idealistic view there bleeding heart!
Really think you could raise your family on fractional amounts of your current pay?Oh-better work twice as hard too, maybe the boss will give you more money! OR maybe boss will fire you when he figures out he can get two more illegals that work to the bone for the cost of your "whiney" and "lazy" ass!
But I am the one out of phase with reality.

    Jesus. H. Christ.

You don't get it at all. I brought up that little history lesson to illustrate your ignorance, and how naive you really are. You said that even if Japan and Germany could have had a large military they wouldn't have. I proved you wrong on something I shouldn't have had to reinforce to you in the first place. If you'd bothered doing any learning about your own country and some places like Kursk and Stalingrad you'd know about the German military.

I never said things were like WWI or WWII. Hell, those were easier because you knew who the enemy was, they were uniformed combatants who adhered (well, loosely anyway. Don't get me started on Japans war atrocities. Not that you'd know anything about them) to a set of rules of warfare. Not that such a thing really exists. Instead today we have combatants who are just as dedicated, just as brutal and just as well armed that don't wear uniforms but hide behind civilians and kill in the name of their God. Of course, I don't know of any instance where German or Japanese forces loaded up mentally disabled women with explosives, sent them into a crowded market and then detonated them remotely. They view this as an acceptable strategy to an even more horrifying end, the death of anyone who doesn't share their religious viewpoint. They don't negotiate, they don't want surrender. Tell me how diplomacy is supposed to work with that? How would you get them to surrender since apparently you're smarter than the rest of us knuckle-draggers?

Countries bounce back from depressions and recessions. What's made our country great is that not only have we done that ourselves, but we've helped other countries as well. Europe wouldn't be what it is today without the un-repaid war loans that we gave them. We overlooked that debt in the interests of getting them back into the world. It takes a balance of economics and military power for a country to succeed and we've done better than anyone else.

i agree with what you are saying, and i am saying that the "Wars" have saved our asses in the past, but we aren't really even in control of our own economy at this point. not to mention how dependent we have become as a middle man nation rather than a provider. Believe you and me, i am the last one you even want to get started in on with the administration or politics in general, i am well versed and know alot of global politics. i never once said a thing about our offices and our armed services, two completely different entities IMO.

Military is great, have not nothing against them. National Guard great stuff! Sending young guys and girls to war that is just not working out= not good. I hate seeing and hearing every day on radio and TV about soldiers dieing there, while they can be here actually protecting the US soil with their families and friends.

BTW, most "illigals" pay taxes, and make way less than 30k a year but never claim their taxes back. So the comment about them leaching of the economy does not fly so well.

True, but many of you are failing to realize that that balance is heavily shifting more towards the economic side of the scale.

Just because something worked in the past doesn't mean it will work in the future. Sure, that used to hold true but our world is evolving at a logrithmic pace nowadays. We have seen more change in the past 100 years than the rest of human history.

I'd like to see an illegal take my job. They wont. And I know this. And I challenge any illegal to take my job. They wont. And I know this. I work hard. And I have the skills required for it. If they can find an illegal to do my job cheaper, then I haven't worked hard enough to justify my pay. And like I said, when they make it a law that illegals have to be paid the same amount that us citizens are paid, then there will be no need to hire illegal immigrants. The problem is with the government, not the illegals. And I don't whine, and I'm not lazy. And that is why I am certain I wont lose my job to an illegal immigrant. And illegals don't leech off the economy, they'd be leeching off the economy if they were earning the same wages. In a good economy, people make more money, illegals don't. So the economy has nothing to do with it. Illegals are hired because they work for less pay off the books...the problem lies with the employer there...not the illegal immigrant. I agree that illegal immigration is a problem, and I agree they shouldn't be allowed to work without paying taxes and such...but they are here and there is a market for their services because employers know they can get more work for less money.

Wait, correct me if I'm wrong...

Violence is down, the troop surge worked, we're already pulling people out, the Iraqi military/police is becoming more self sufficient, we're finding and killing al Qaida leaders and their soldiers, restoring the infrastructure and the war is not going the direction it was intended to? Wow. I might need to go re-read some of those military history books and make sure I had this whole warfare thing down. Apparently I had the objectives all wrong...

You should try listening to something other than Air America for your news updates. Might broaden your horizons.

So basically you're trying to say that you would like to see our troops withdrawn from redundant or needless posts back to home soil so we are better able to protect our country's internal and domestic affairs primarily and support the overseas operations secondarily?

Social Security fraud. ever heard about that? Read the newspaper, or watch (for you I'm assuming) FOX?

Good Economy? Yeah right, never was and never will be. A good economy doesnt just have to be made up of good strategies and policies, you also need the embodiment of Honest and just people.

I honestly feel for the immigrants when I slow down and consider their shoes, just trying to make it better and such, but when they do this debauchery to the working Americans, I get disgusted. Stand in line like everybody else, do **** right.
The employers are 100% to blame. It is the GVT fault, but when they cant handle paving roads and setting proper taxes, what the **** are you counting on them to solve or prevent this?
We agree more than what it seems Jason, and I really am not that big of an ignorant person, but be cool and continue to say and think I am.

I agree with you, the world is changing but thanks to human nature a military is always going to be needed. And right now, I think we're at a point where we could see another World War in the next 20 years. Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, the Middle East. Take your pick, the fit is going to hit the shan and it's going to be ugly. History tends to repeat itself, we've been doing the same thing to each other for the last few thousand years, we're just getting more efficient at it. I think human nature is such that it's going to be a long ways down the road, if ever that we see true globalization and "world peace".
