My friend, this is a very touchy subject. what you are saying is not whats written in Koran. Koran is a very, very old teaching that is written in a very complicated Arabic dialect. Lots of people can swing things in all kinds of ways they want when they interpret it.

I support our troops, but I'm not a fan of our leader. I respect our military. I think it's crap that someone would ban the military from their city. Do I agree with the war? No. Do I protest the military for trying to recruit? No.

I heard about the original topic a few days ago. I personally think that it is personally bogus, that a city is forcing a military recruiter to leave. That recruiter has every right to be there. they are not doing anything wrong and should not be hated, if people want to join let them. Its kind of like minneapolis telling the U of M to leave because we dont like higher education.

You are kind of missing the point. This whole fiasco stemmed from the city's anti-discrimination law against sexual orientation. They basically told the Marines to either quit discriminating against homosexuals (ie, act in compliance with their local laws) or gtfo.

Then a bunch of other morons spun the thing waaaaayyyyyy off track into what you are reading/hearing today.

As a Marine who has been working on recruiters assistance for nearly a month now, trust me when I say its unbelievable that people dont think this doesnt happen ALL the time.

Hell, I'm an alumn at normandale and I'm not allowed to walk around their halls in civilian cloths and talk to my friends about the corps without an appointment. Their new female dean of students tried to have ALL military kicked out in the past year or so, including many retired Soldier and Marine students who are taking classes through their GI bills.

Most of the time we just smile, say thankyou, and move on with our day. There have been a few instances where I'm glad the corps instilled a LOT of self restraint in me.

For instance, being slapped by a middle aged woman at the gas station while in civilian cloths was a nice touch.

And regarding gays in the military, I am a firm believer that they dont belong, largely for their own safety. We spend a lot of time in close quarters, and are also put in a lot of situations where being concerned about a marine having innapropriate emotional attatchments to another Marine would really degrade morale in a unit.

 

Then again, what would anyone at berkely know about the brotherhood among Marines?

They wouldnt know what kind of stuff you go through in bootcamp, the rank hierarchy and how it structures everything, or even the traditions and history. They just like the flap their jaws and say that gays arent given rights.

****, their not allowed to join the Marine corps and then be vocal about being gay. Its not the end of the world. Realizing that sticking themselves into a position to BE discriminated is half the problem, the decide to complain? Homosexuals DO EXIST in the military. Everyone knows who they are, and the other 99.9% of the military members I know, DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE SERVING WITH THEM.
