I will have Newb questions for a while, :eek3:, bear with me pls. What is the best On-Line resource to use when looking for genuine Subaru part numbers, and then after-market part numbers (e.x. Rotors and brake pads, and couplers). After I get the part # I would then go out and explore my options, and then see if I have monies to spare and splurge on upgraded parts. Or, should I just go out and buy a Chiltons, and go from there? For lack of a better example, for computer parts I go to Newegg.com or Microcenter.com to find out the best retail market prices when I build a new computer. I'm lookin for something similar for my Legacy. I don't mind doing my own looking around, but I thought it best to ask the people who know more than I about such an important subject. Thank You, 98 Legacy
Call MTKA Morries Subaru parts and ask for Erik or Brian. That is about the best way to get parts cheap. I don't know of anywhere you can go for a subaru parts catalog.
I always look up parts on www.subarugenuineparts.com then shoot the boy's at MNTKA Subaru a pm to order.
Thanks for the recommendation ReadyMix! There are alot of "fluff" websites that cater to imports, I want to cut through the junk pages and locate a reputable point of reference. Any sites you recommend to use when just browsing for parts, so I don't annoy Brian and Erik.
You should annoy Brian and Erik every chance you get. They love it. And they will likely put you on their Christmas card list for doing so.
if you're looking for parts from 1985-2004, go to your favorite dealer, and order/buy MSA6P0403. it's a parts quick reference book. it has part numbers for all common maintenance things (brakes, water pumps, belts, exhaust, gaskets, etc.). also, www.rockauto.com sells some OEM parts, as well as many high quality aftermarket parts at great prices. also, www.1stsubaruparts.com has a pretty good part # lookup application. and usually similar or cheaper prices than the club discount. EDIT: oops....looks like dave beat me to it!
Best/most convenient (to me) option of looking up OEM part numbers is a "subaru-fast 2" software. Don't know if you can buy it somewhere legally, otherwise - bittorrent. Once you have part numbers - shop at the links given above, or call guys referenced above with those prices and they are likely to do some sort of pricematch. As for aftermarket - visit producer's sites and browse catalogs.
Hey, thats cool. Thanks again for the info! I think I am going to get one of those quick reference part books soon, I just need moar monies.
DONT TAKE THOSE BOOKS AS GOSPEL! the subaru parts coordinators (at SOA) don't "back" that book, it has alot of things that are wrong, but for the most part, its a good reference for part numbers and whatnot.
^meh....I have yet to find anything. and I order stuff from there all the time (the dealer up here is also a chrysler dealer.....the parts guys don't know a thing about subies.....). only time I've had problems is if a part number has been replaced with a new one.
