So I found the TSB. Very common, I guess. Now how do I get this fixed? Will a dealer do it? If not is there someone on the forums that has done this before? thanks. http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/general-maintenance-troubleshooting-accidents/134288153-i-smell-raw-gas-my-wrx-its-cold-outside-thread-tsb-inside.html
sorry, did a search for "fuel smell" didn't get anything to come up. EDIT: so dealer is the best bet for this? uhg...
I did this during the summer while it was warm. Unfortunatly, I'm still getting fuel smell. so I think I need to remove the manifold again tighten some of the clamps and maybe buy some longer rubber lines. Not looking forward to tearing apart my car again though it should go quicker this time.
after doing this on my 02, I think if it happens on the 03 i am just going to put a aftermarket turbo inlet on the car and do it with out removing the intake mani.
I saw the print out for the fix. It involves replacing a small section of fuel line and rubber hose. It should be covered for you as it was a recall I believe. I just started getting this smell as well, but I dont think the recall applies to my car ;-). It is just something I will have to fix next time I have the intake manifold off.
There never was a recall for the fuel smell in cold weather. There is a full page TSB that is posted on here somewhere of the repairs with part numbers from subaru. I just replaced all the fuel lines on the bottom of the intake manifold with longer ones(around 1/2 inch longer then what was there). That fixed the problem.
I hope that they offer refunds to everyone that has already paid to get that fixed now that its being recalled.
I know it says to "wait and not call your local dealer", but I'm going to call my local dealer. If I'm not on the list I'm going to bitch on moan until they do something. My car smells like a snowmobile
I called Morrie's Subaru in Brooklyn Park, and there will be no refunds as is for every recall, and they seemed kinda aggravated with my questions. :\ I'm taking off work on the 16th and figuring everything out, If anyone would like to start a meet/group up with me maybe it will be less stressful to go through all the paper work? I know for sure there not going to just hand over the parts unless I'm totally wrong, I have a feeling its going to be way more then running my VIN over the phone, But I could be way wrong on this.
Well the dealers probly won't know anything until they get more info from Subaru (around the 16th), so calling them now and bugging them will likely just lead to irritation on both ends. However, once the date comes and the dealers have the info they need as well as vin#'s then you'll be able to go in and see what you can do. These cars are 8 years old now and if they've been running this long it can't be a serious problem. I just want to make sure if people are getting this fixed for free that I'm going to be one of them.
it specifically says to wait until the 16th and see if you get a letter, are you unable to read people? seriously. as laserblue135 stated, the cars are 8 years old or so, so either be patient and see what they'll do for you, or shut up and fix it yourself.
Yeah I know, I have read way to much on this. I just was asking questions on other recalls and sense they couldn't make a deal i think they got irritated with that. In any case I'm not contacting them until the 16th.
Actually, I think this is pretty cool since the cars are 7-8 years old. I hope that SOA tracks me down. I was not looking forward to going through this again this year...
It will be mailed, but also wont the dealerships be noted right when they are sent? that way they could do a VIN check. I'm not expecting my letter seeing as I just bought it about 2 months ago. I have not even gotten my title in the mail yet.
"• VIN lists will be sent to dealers located in the affected 16 states on or around December 14, 2009." quoted from thread.
crap! I just replaced my lines last winter and NOW they recall them?!! Oh well I got some good experience and a new turbo inlet.
