Bumpity bump! Here's more info (from an old thread by Amy Springer - ScandiaWRX) in case you're new to the sport: If you want to be the next Travis Pastrana, but didn't happen to find his wallet or car keys at the X-Games, RallyCross is a much less expensive, fun and fairly safe, way to build your car control skills in the dirt. I enjoy the low key nature of our local events and I love watching other drivers display their driving skills. I'm often left wondering, "How did he do that?" A RallyCross is similar to an AutoCross or Solo event, cars are timed through a twisty course made up of cones. But instead of being run on asphalt, in RallyCross we do it in the dirt! One at a time . Courses are designed so that speeds should not exceed 40 mph. Another difference is in most Solo events your fastest time of the day is your score. In RallyCross competitors are scored on the total of multiple runs. RallyCross classes are tailored according to number of driven wheels, engine capability and the style of tires mounted. Many stage rally competitors use RallyCross as a way to shake down their race cars, so there's a good chance of seeing some interesting cars and trucks making noise and spraying gravel. I've seen everything from a 4wd S-10 Rally Truck (photo not from Corcoran but he raced there last year) a rally prepared Dodge Omni (aka "noisey cricket") Fully caged ice racers, and of course, Subarus. The fastest car at last year's Corcoran event was stock Audi seen below. Many events are run in farm fields but at least one event during the year is run on a gravel parking lot at the Hennepin County Fair Grounds in Corcoran, MN (the West Suburbs) (NOTE: We unfortunately can't run at the Corcoran site anymore). Most RallyCross is fairly safe for your car, with an occassional popped tire bead. But, as with all racing, if you can't afford to break it, don't race it. Pictures from Corcoran RallyCross 2006. Brent, this year's Corcoran Rally Master, showing how it's done. Brent is very fast in his Audi. Here he is at the Cannon Falls RallyCross site. Aerial view of Cannon Falls RallyCross site Uh, you'll probably need a car wash when your done. But its only dirt! (Another shot from Cannon Falls) Come check out RallyCross. You won't be disappointed! Truth! Never the fastest...but photogenic they are!lol Hopefully we have some photo taken spectators at this one!
Free to spectate as usual...just have to sign the insurance waiver. But i think that you should sign up and get the Leggy dirty tho!
borrow someones radio, use a loaner helmet and you dont need to be a member..being a member just makes it cheaper.
I'll be running the RSVX. I'm still iffy about running the WRXTi after the flood. I may run it again someday because she loves ridin' durty, but the RSVX's sole purpose is to rallyx!
So, when I look at the current registration list, with just over a week to go, I see two cars. Jesse and me. Where's everyone else? With a couple month break I'd think more people would be itching to get back out.
I'm registered, but not showing up on the list, so it's up to four right now. And Emily is correct that a lot of people wait until the last minute to sign up. Rallycross people = procrastinators.
It takes up to 15 min to show up, your on there now. Lets get registered people, I know a lot of you want to do it, just sign up and do it, it's tons of fun and you don't need a dedicated race car.
Oh, belive me, I know. I was the series registrar for years. I've also been an eventmaster and know how nerve wracking it can be waiting to see if there are going to be enough people to put the event on. So register, people!
So as little as $45 if you're a member and prepay. Or as much as $70 if you are not a member and pay at the event. The $15 that non-members pay on top of the $45 buys what SCCA calls a weekend membership. A weekend membership can be applied to the cost ($80/yr iirc?) of a full membership. That's where the $15 comes in. Coming and watching is free (but usually frustrating, because then you'll be watching other people have fun and not get to participate in it!)
well I prob wouldn't be able to race my car cuz there is not enough power going to the wheels to do anything haha... No but seriously I dont think my car could handle it other wise I would race... Or shouldn't I
Jesse will be out there in a front wheel drive hyundai (and he has a decent shot at winning)...you'll be fine
what size engine does he have cuz I promise you I would have the smallest engine haha with the least amount of hp
Pretty sure that Hyundai only came with a 1.6L, in two versions,. 92hp and 105hp. Didn't feel that anemic when I drove it earlier this year though. Light weight makes a world of difference. I'm coming with a 21 year old Nissan Sentra with a stock engine with 180K on it.
Oh, I sincerely hope not. A little moisture to tack up the surface and hold down dust, sure, but when it really gets wet there it's really nasty.
