I have a 2000 Legacy Gt. In the last week, I've started having issues with the blinkers. This is only when I am making a left turn, and it is very infrequent. about 1 in 20 left turns I will have no blinker light outside or on the dash and the blinker sound goes into double time. This is consistent with what I have experienced in the past with other burned out headlight bulbs, only it was an all or non principle.

Now, if this happens, I can (and without changing the position of the steering wheel) cancel the turn signal and reengage it, and have it operate perfectly. I looked at the bulbs and they seem fine. Is this a flasher or switch issue, and how do i fix it?

Double-time sounds usually mean a bulb out. Otherwise, if you've replaced the bulbs (i assume you tried that first, yes?) a bad relay perhaps?

I haven't replaced them, but I pulled them out and looked at them and they appear to be good. The double time I've experienced in the past was a bulb issue, but it was an all or none deal, not intermittent as it currently is...

    Low on blinker fluid?

Now seriously, might be a bad bulb, could be a relay. Could be the whole turn signal assembly. Loose wire?

I would say its the contacts in the stalk arm wearing out.

"I would say its the contacts in the stalk arm wearing out. "

I'm thinking this may be it. How could I confirm this?

Wasn't the rear. I'm going to order some amber bulbs and use the front replacement as an opportunity to "clear" the headlights.

+1 internets for you sir. I took it apart and sanded the points, seems to have improved significantly, enough that I'll probably wait to find one at a junker rather than getting a new one.
