So...not higher speed runs unless you are certified/licensed? How would one get certified/licesnsed? How much? :squint: Would they forgo that if you exhibit good car control?

Would most all of us have to sign up for touring then?

I think it would be neat to be up there, but it seems like a bit of a shame to go to an actual track and not go fast. I auto-x and rally-x and see 50mph plenty enough. It would be nice to actually get into 3rd gear for more than a few seconds if at all.

I am one of the instructors ar BIR, if your interested in running fast come on up on Monday. We have openings. You will get about 5 hours of runs as fast as you want, after you attend the class and complete your drive alongs.

I can tell you that running at the track is very different from AutoX.

BTW if you run on Monday it would put you in the higher speed group on the weekend.

    Cost= $290 for the day

Yes...$300...:hsugh: The $20 days are nice, but I'm a poor college student. $300 for a day plus about $100 for the trip up/down is quite a monetary soak. Although, it'd be fun. It's mainly why I've never been up there in the past, nor the go-karting with you freaks. Auto-x and rally-x is cheap, and I'm all about that.

Agreed, track driving is very different from auto-x.

Hmmm, I am still thinking about going, but not too keen on camping. Who is heading there from the cities when? Caravan?

I also have two spare bedrooms but there will not be boozing or causing trouble at my place. So if you want a warm bed 30 min. from BIR send me a PM.

Are you doing lapping or touring? When may you actually be heading up there? I may wanna just do a day-trip too. My WRX friend is backing out and I would hate to roll there without other subies

Touring. And I wouldn't be in a Subie :) As Mushashi suggests, I'd be in my SE-R.

I will be heading out Saturday Morning from Saint Michael, MN if anyone wants to hook up. Looks like it will be a one dayn'r for moi. Don't forget to do your own Tech Inspection, do some general maintanance, especially bleeding your brake fluid if you plan on doing some hot laps. And don't leave your house without your Lid to cover your grape.

Hope to see some of you out there this weekend. I don't know enough of you, so if you see a red 240sx, stopby and introduce yourself. And I'll be happy to give rides, just as long as my badge gets approved by the BIR officials. LOL

I was going to try and make it out this weekend, but I got the short straw at work. Have to make a run to minot and back on friday, and then do my usual friday run to alex and DL on sunday.

I could try for Saturday, but I'm really not sure I am going to want to spend more time on the road after the minot trip

Still thinking about this; anyone know if we can just show up to the classroom session at 8am and drive, if we are not pre-registered? No one is answering the phone at the track...

Great time on & off track this weekend. Hanging out off track that is, I didn't go off track while lapping but I saw a few departures. The weather was poopy for hanging out for part of Saturday and all of Sunday. Mayhem was nice enough to go out with me to show me the line in my first session.

I wasn't the slowest and managed to pass a small few. The rain was a pretty good equalizer for my relatively under powered Legacy with its awd and weak brakes.

Sat AM session (dry) was a blast, even with all the traffic. Some people really needed to be more aware of what was coming up behind them.

PM session (wet) split into two groups, and I think some people left, so almost no traffic. Couple scary spots where you could hydroplane a bit.

Despite the rain, the best $25 I have spent in a long time.

It was nice to talk with a few of you that were there.

Lee from Rochester, sorry I couldn't stick with you after the first session on Sunday. I had other things I needed to do. I hope Bill helped you out, he knows a great deal and is happy to share. (what's your SN anyway?)

Moleness, I enjoyed driving your car. I hope the ride was informative as to what smooth means while driving at speed. I found it funny when one of the others saw us get out of the car and said he was sure it couldn't be you driving. Do me a favor, get more experience and show him that you CAN drive like that.

The last session I was on track I took Carrie (rallywife) for a ride in the school's Z06. It sucked big time. That is NOT a good car in the rain. The Subies were much more fun.

What do you all think of having a driving techniques classroom session some time? I know it is better if you can then directly apply it but we don't have a site for the driving part. If you want to do this, should we have different sessions for dirt and paved or have one that discusses both? What about the differences between different slippery surfaces (ice, snow, mud)? Obviously, I would be happy to be the presenter.

Mods, if this needs it's own thread, feel free. If there is enough support, we can schedule it later and then decide on a location.

I want to ignore this. I've been trying all day. But the problem is, I know that both of you are perfectly capable of storing your minds in the gutter. So I can't. So there.

Perhaps setting something like this up to happen the day before something like this (http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27601&highlight=DCTC) that Mushashi set up if that happens again? Wouldn't have to be at the site or directly connected at all, but it would give people a chance to put into action some of the things they're talking about.

And I would certianly be interested, regardless.

I am very happy to hear that. I like to drive other peoples cars but I really like to help others learn to have more fun with their cars. It appears we may have accomplished both, and that's good.

Ride-alongs are interesting. It's something I've done a bit during auto-x test and tune days. It's interesting how other people drive their cars versus you driving their cars(if they let you, lol). There's a lot to learn by viewing the experience from a different perspective. Constructive criticism can be very helpful if you can take a little pride bashing. Advise should always be taken humbly and with an open mind.

Nice seeing so many new faces at the new track! I was the guy with the orange "Wheaties" cap helping with tech, and driving my silver #47 Evo with the silly orange blinky light as a pace car during touring. Too bad we had so much rain. Would have been nice to do something other than drifting on Sunday.

Remember, we had a team meeting to see who got the ride this time. I was perfectly happy to let the two of you mud wrestle for it but you gave up too easy.
